Thank you for explaning the "knighting" event. We heard the laughter over the satellite broadcast at the stake center but did not see what happened. The conference messages and music are uplifting and inspiring.

I'm so glad the leadership commented on topics surrounding doubts about our faith. I know this is the true Church of Jesus Christ, that The Book of Mormon is the word of God, Joseph Smith is the Prophet of this last dispensation, and that Gordon B. Hinckley is the Prophet of God today.

I was watching the Saturday session of Conference in our ward building and was delighted to see President Eyring called to the First Presidency. I know that he is called of God and will do all that is asked of him to help our beloved prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley to further the work of spreading the gospel to then ends of the earth.

Love reading the conference report on the internet, but also thrill at the technology that allows us to watch it in Hawaii, on cable television, as conference happens. Thanks to cable television owners everywhere.

Aren't we blessed to hear and see the love of Heavenly Father bestowed upon all of us of His goodness and love through His servants. We are so fortunate to have the miracles of TV, newspapers, and the internet to see and witness all the teachings and understanding that can be given to us so easily and quickly. What a wonderful time to be alive and to learn so much! What wonderful leaders we have, especially President Hinckley, but all of the 1st Presidencey, the Quorum of the Twelve and the Quorum of the Seventy. Surely there has never been a most blessed time to live than being alive right now! What powerful and wonderful counsel we've been given to help us in our individual lives.

The advice seems pretty obvious and basic to me. Pay your tithing, avoid pornography, follow your church leaders, read your scriptures; it was like a greatest hits of conferences past. Nothing new.

I absolutely Elder Wirthlin's talks in the past. During his speech I was in tears as I saw him struggling, and began to pray for him. At that time Elder Nelson was at his side to support a friend and colleague. This was one of my most heart-felt moments in General Conference. I admire his great love and endurance.

That may be true, but there is a reason they keep saying the same things. Perhaps it is because many are not doing the things they are talking about. If we want to hear new things, follow the counsel they give.

President Eyring's talk on keeping a journal, with a twist, really motivated me to start being more consistent in keeping track of the blessed moments I enjoy.

Yes...I have heard talks on journal/record keeping before...but, today my heart, mind, and heart are different than before...and today I am motivated.

Elder Wirthlin is just advanced in age. His mind is sharp and he adds a great deal of knowledge for the church, he is just advancing in years. It brought tears to my eyes to see Elder Nelson stand and support his brother when he needed it. When I worked at temple square it would always be the highlight of my day when I could see the brethren interact with each other, and see their deep love for one another. You often see them walking with each other supporting each other. They often looked so tired, but kept pushing forward because they love us.
Conference was not the same old thing, it was amazing. We had the opportunity to raise our hand and sustain our beloved prophet and the brethren. We had the opportunity to be instructed by those who are assigned to teach us the truth that we need at this very moment. If we listen and do, we will find that our lives will be richly blessed.

Upon hearing of Pres Eyring's name I googled his name. Of course I came up with his father's name and came up with some wonderful insites about religion and science.

Conference was once again great. I had the opportunity to attend the priesthood session in the conference center with my 13 year old son. To help him have a good experience I encouraged him to take notes. It was amazing to see how his summarization of each talk was similar to my experience. I.e. for Pres. Hinckleyï¿½s talk he wrote ï¿½Anger gets you in trouble if you donï¿½t control it, do not get angry over nothing.ï¿½ Which just showed it again to me that General Conference is as good as you make it.

I have several relatives who are LDS and I just can't understand all the near worship that your people give these men. This is America and you are free to worship as you like. I just find it strange and it's one reason I've told my relatives I won't join the LDS Church....I'm not into hero worship.

"near worship...give these men" I might suggest you consider what we also heard that all of these men are just like us, entitle to revelation for our families.

Brain, consider what you said between the lines is that one reason you "won't join the LDS Church" is because others do not act like you think they should. Perhaps you should base such a significant decision on facts such as the truth of the Book of Mormon, Joseph seeing God the Father and Jesus Christ, and the restoration of the Priesthood instead of mere actions of others - especially when perceived incorrectly. Respect for men of God does not constitute worship, I think there are many who would like to be more like them, and more importantly like our Lord and Savior.

The fun thing about President Hinckely is his sense of humor. He and Sister Hinckley both had a lot of wit. I was wondering what everyone was laughing about (I was listening to the radio.) Now I wish I had been watching it on the TV, just to see that. :)

These men are not heroes... They are just good people we admire and support as men of God,prophets who recieve revelation and help us live a better life. Please do not missunderstand what we feel for these men.

I invite you Brian to know more about the Church so that you can understand how we feel.

If members of the LDS faith are choosing the men and women, who lead their church, as individuals to idolize and look to as heroes, they are far better off than those people in the world who idolize Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Kolby Bryant, Lindsay Lohan, Tom Brady, etc. Quite frankly many of these men are heroes who fought in past wars with courage and dignity. They have brought about great advances in science, polititcs, and education (if you want examples consider Elder Eyring's contribution to education and Elder Nelson's pioneering work in cardiovascular surgery). They have earned the admiration that they are given and I have no problem calling them my heroes.

Sunday was my 74th birthday. Because of my love for the Savior and the restored gospel, I feel as young as I was 50 years ago.
Kudos to those of you who love and admire our leaders. President Hinkley brings pride to my heart that we are led in such a glorious way.
President Eyring will continue the leadership to make me feel loved and cared for while on this earth.
I am sorry you miss this happiness Brian.

Unfortunately, I had to work on Saturday and missed the official call to President Eyring; and his "Knighting" by President Hinckley.
Not only are we united peoples in our joy of the teachings of Our Savior Jesus Christ; but we are a happy, and fun loving people, such as President Hinckley did show by his fine example of humour, during this wonderful opportunity of enjoying our world-wide semi annual conference.
I am so thamkful that these proceeding are covered by the media, and that we may view and review them as often as we are able.
These wonderful examples of living Prophets, Seers and Revelators are my modern day heros. Their examples help me live a better and more ful-filling life, including the serious and humorous sides, that make me (and all of us) a better person.

I know that the scriptures are true and that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love us so much and we are blessed to be on earth today.

Brian, respect and sustaining of the leaders are different from idolatry.

Hopefully your heart will be softened and you'll be enlightened.

Elder's Wirthlin and Nelson served in the same stake presidency together many years ago. Elder Nelson was delighted that his friend Joseph was called as a general authority (General Sunday School) and then Elder Nelson was called as an Apostle and then Elder Wirthlin. Who better to stand by you than you life long friend who is both an Apostle and a doctor!! I was moved to tears

Yes this conference was great. Well if we as a people collectively will truly begin to obey the Lord and do the "greatest hits of conferences past. Nothing new." Then the day will come when we will be blessed with the sealed portion of the Book of Mormon and new revelation. So until we truly do what the Lord Jesus Christ continues to counsel us to do through his prophet and apostles and local leaders, then I guess we will continue to be given the "greatest hits of conference past" with each new conference until we are ready for more.

To KM - My conference experience depends on my individual preparation. When I listen to conference, I not only hear the counsel from the general authorities, but I feel the love of my Heavenly Father and my Savior, Jesus Christ. When I was a child, conference sessions seemed to last forever sounding like deep, slow, droning voices to me. But as I have grown, and my testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel has grown, those sessions of conference seem to fly by, and each and every speaker is precious to me. I crave their insights and marvel at their ability to convey enormous ideas with a few words. When in college, I used a highlighter to mark my textbooks, cutting through the "junk" to get to the meat of the text. I have discovered that when I take a highlighter to my conference talks in the Ensign, there is no "junk" - the whole thing is yellow! I don't mean to be preachy, but hang in there, and try to feel the conference talks with your heart and maybe you will find the peace that I have found in them.

I just translated Elder Quentin Cook at our Stake conference in September in Lubumbashi, DR. Congo. I was very happy to hear that he is know an Apostle of the Lord. I know that he is a man of God and is going to work for he. May God be with him.

I, being a convert to the LDS church, feel that I am so blessed to know of our Father's love for us & the fact that He has placed a living prophet on the earth to guide us at this time! General conference, I feel, is a great time when we, the children of God, can listen to those whom Father has placed in positions of leadership, such as our beloved prophet President Gordon B. Hinckley, as they strive to guide us in the ways which our Father would want us to live! I thank my Heavenly Father for bringing this blessing into my life!!! May He continue to bless His prophet & the other general authorities with the revelations needed to guide us, such as they did in the wonderful general conference talks that were presented to us, the children of God! Thank you!

I thought the entire weekend of Conference was AMAZING! I had a blessing a week before Conference in which I was counseled to take notes and Heavenly Father would give me information about previous prayers. In my 33 years of being a "Convert" this is the first time that I've taken notes. I believe that this is the single most reason that I was able to have such an amazing experience. I will NEVER watch Conference without a pen & paper again!
BTW, you get OUT of Conference, or Sacrament or ANY church meeting what you put INTO it!

How Blessed we are...
I too was spiritually uplifted from this conference, more than any others. But when I saw the image and the story of Pres. Hinckley 'knighting' Elder Eyring, it was like the 'icing on the cake'. How fortunate we are to have a leader that is sincere, loving, kind, being an example of the kind of man I should be. How blessed we are to have a man who showed by example how to love our spouse, raise a family, serve his fellow man, to love the Lord and to follow Christ's example.
Our worship is directed to our Heavenly Father and his Son ,Jesus Christ. We have no worship of Church leaders, local or General Authorities. Rather there is love and respect of these men and women, for all the long hours of service, selflessness, sacrifice love, support, encouragement that they give to us.

God has indeed blessed us to have such men as these to be our leaders, and the newly 'knighted' Elder Eyring and Elder Cooke not the least among them.
