I like the idea that miners would wear some kind of tracking device such that the signal can penetrate the various types of rock and earth in cases such as this one where accidental cave-ins occur. I am not sure if such a device exists or not. perhaps "relay" radio/GPS/cell phone links underground should be placed depending on safety of such devices.
