Can anyone please rid us of the scourge of Cannon?

It's about time we had a legitimate contender to unseat Mr. Cannon. In my opinion, Cannon has become too comfortable outside of Utah. This is evidenced by his failure to communicate with his consituents and the fact that the vast majority of his money come from outside of the State (PACs, etc.). If we, as Utahns, are so unwilling to open our pocket books to support Cannon, why should he continue to have our vote? Get to know this Jason Chaffetz. He can be the guy to beat Cannon.

I am glad someone with solid credentials is going after this seat. It is high time wehave a representative who will act like a Republican should act. I am excited to learn more about Jason and hear what he has to say. It is well past the time for Cannon to go.

It looks like Mr. Cannon will finally have to get a new job. Maybe he'll finally get that he actually hasn't done a good job and maybe he'll get the message that someone like Jason can actually do a better job than he can. We need to rally behind Jason and get him elected. The sooner the better. I'm tired of these long time officials calling themselves Republicans and then acting the way they do.

Thank goodness is all I can say. After years of the embarrassing performance by our congressman in the third distric, Jason Chaffetz is a breath of fresh air.

For the life of me, I can't see why you all have something against Chris Cannon. Aside from his stand on illegal immigration, I can't see anything that makes him not likable. He works pretty hard and he is always in the parades greeting people. Come on Utah! Let's get behind Chris!

I'd like to comment regarding Chris Cannon's supposed non-communication. That simply is not true. He is everywhere and always wanting to hear from us. Get more involved personally and call him, we can't imagine him to call each of us. He also has a staff that is eager to assist. Check the phone book for his staff and start the communication.

Who cares what republican is running against him, it will be just more of the same when it's over. We need someone like Christian Burrage to represent Utah and a change in Washington.

If Chaffetz is so ambitious to be in Congress why doesn't he run against Matheson in the second district where he lives instead of running against a fellow-Republican in another Congressional district?

Isn't it normal that a candidate's announcement includes current employment information? Great, he worked for Gov. Huntsman for a while and left for private sector opportunities...and now he can't wait to get back into government. What's up?

Well, it looks like all the local Cannon staffers are counterattacking. That's O.K. Enough Utahns know that the real Chris Cannon only pretends to listen. That's why Americans for Better Immigration rates him a C-, with an F for amnesty and for guest workers. Google web search "Chris Cannon+immigration", and it will come up on the first page. Cannon and the rest of the "Bushniks" absolutely refuse to listen to us when it comes to immigration.

As for Jim Matheson, he is a relatively conservative Democrat. At least he's not a Nancy Pelosi.

Cannon is not what Utah needs in a congressman. Jason is more ego than substance. I'm looking for a third option.

All you campaign workers need not reply, I won't be reading these comments again.

Chaffetz is not it. | 4:40 p.m. Oct. 1, 2007
I'm not a campaign worker...I am actually a State Delegate in the 3rd District (6yrs now...hopefully more coming). Most "insider talk" is that Chaffetz didn't do so well for Huntsman and so I don't believe he'd be effective in Congress.

If someone is going to "knock out" Cannon they will have to have extensive successful experiences in their background and be able to convince me they can have significant influence in Congress - Chaffetz is not it.

I am a State Delegate who lives in the 3rd District and has followed local politics closely for years. While I believe that our area may be in need of new leadership, Jason Chaffetz is not the answer.

I have spoken with many who indicated that he was a disaster in the Governor's office. And, in speaking with him personally, have determined that he is all ego.

No. Utah sees a major earthquake every 350 years. Last one? 350 years ago.
