Buhler's THE man people...Let's get up, get out, get down and boogie. VOTE

It amazes me that Utahns can get right at the local level, but drop the ball so clumsily at the national level of politics.

It seems to be all about religion and who can hate the LDS Church more to win an election in Salt Lake City. The only issue is HATE for mormons with the voters, not whats best for the city, SAD!!!

I know Ralph Becker and he is a class act. He does not hate Mormons and is very respectful to all parties. He certainly has opinions, many I disagree with but that does not detract from his character.

He is not an Anderson type Mormon basher.

Vote for whomever you will but don't vote against Ralph because of perceived anti-LDS bias. He has none. And if you asked that question of all the Republicans in the State Legislature I would bet that every single one of them would agree.

The only thing that matters IS what's best for the city. What's best for the city is a energetic progressive thinker.

Thank goodness Buhler isn't the only candidate!

I am thrilled to hear that SLC is leaning toward Ralph. He is an able leader who will help the city move on after Rocky (who I am proud to say is a friend). Buhler would bring nothing of substance to the position. I have often wondered if he has ever had a job, as an adult, that was not obtained through political connections? If Dave is the best the LDS community can come up with, they should examine the relevance of their positions.

And non-Mormons accuse Mormons of voting as a block! What a laugh!

We Salt Lakers would not consider a vote for Dave Buhler an act of "hate" towards Episcopalians, but that is because our city harbors a culture of respect for differences. I am a proud resident of Salt Lake City and I will vote for the candidate who has the best vision for our city and the ability to make it reality- regardless of religious views or past party affiliations.

That makes no sense at all. How does the article make a point either way. Do you think that Mormons are even a majority in Salt Lake City? You must just be easily amused.

Exactly my point. Non-Mormons are a majority in SLC and the non-Mormon is leading in the polls. No suprise. Mormon's generally vote for the Mormon and the non-Mormons generally for the non-Mormon. I just think it's funny that when it works against non-Moromons, then Mormons are roundly chastised for voting as a block, but when it works for non-Mormons, then, of course it's just enlighted voters, not block voting against the Mormon. That's the laugh. I can readily admit that Mormons vote generally as a block. So what? They have that right. So do non-Mormons. Just don't act like there's a difference.

Believe it or not some people actaully weigh what is best for the city, and don't consider the religious beliefs of candidates. But clearly complaining about the religion of candidates is easier than actually talking about the issues.

I believe Salt Lake is blessed with two viable candidates for mayor. However i have to lean towards Buhler due to the fact that i see him as a more complete mayor. Becker to me seems to lack ideas for the west side. I was extreamly disappointed to find out that he left a important community meeting other mayors candidates were attending that delt with very important issues for the future of the west side. I found out later that he left for a fundraiser. I was saddend to find out that he saw fundraising to be more important the concerns of the west side. The issue was about the N. Temple light rail line and a possible building of an overpass that would hurt the west side again. Becker left that meeting and when i had the chance to ask him about it nd other west side concerns he admitted he has not looked into many of those issues. Buhler stayed and seems very concernd about the west side and east side. I want a Mayor who is of the city not the east side only. Thats why unless something changes i vote and support Buhler.

Ummm, Robo - Mayors of SLC have mostly been Mormon. Maybe not active, but mormon. I know Anderson is, I know Ted Wilson is. We have no problem voting more Mormons as long as they are liberal Mormons. There are many of them and they are great. We'd all vote for Harry Reid. It has nothing to do with religion. It has to do with political ideology and ideas for the direction of our city.

I don't live in Salt Lake City so my opinion doesn't really count but I do work in Salt Lake City and have met Becker, in fact a Republican and a Democrat with invited to talk with a group of State employees a few years back and only Becker showed. I thought him to be a GENUINE person and wish him well in the upcoming elections

if Ted Danson and Matthew Broderick ran against one another for SLC mayor!
Come to think of it, it would be even cooler if Gary Coleman moved up from Santaquin and tossed his hat into the ring!

I'm a Salt Lake County resident and therefore am not able to vote in the mayoral election but I wish I could, since city politics affect county residents also. I was ashamed of Mayor Anderson's juvenile behavior in national politics when he should be a supreme statesman as head of a city. If I were voting in SLC's mayoral election, I'd vote for Dave Buhler as he seems to be an earnest, knowledgeable, down-to-earth concerned leader.

I believe Dave Buhler is the best candidate for the city. Dave has more experience with city issues than Ralph Becker. Mr. Becker has been a very disappointing sentor who neglected the poor areas in his district. Yet, Mr. Becker did well caring for the area of his district with the more affluent residents. It was ironic that Mr. Becker spoke on NPR this morning about Rocky neglecting the Westside!!!

I am not surprised that so many people will vote on a political party instead of a politician or the issues. This is the real tragedy. Today's political parties are part of the overall problems that we have in the US. Is it a wonder that people are fed up with politicians and the US President has an approval rating of around 30% and the rating for the US Congress is even lower? We need to start educating ourselves on issues and vote for the best candidates.
