I look forward to the transition, however I hope that someone takes a close look at the math dept at UVSC. There are definitely some needed improvements in the dept. that should be addressed before UVSC makes the transition into a university.

I look forward to the transition, however I hope that someone takes a close look at the math dept at UVSC. There are definitely some needed improvements in the dept. that should be addressed before UVSC makes the transition into a university. I've heard many student complaints regarding the lack of communication throughout that dept and the hoops that must be jumped through by students trying to meet their math requirements.

UVSC student services | 3:27 p.m. Sept. 28, 2007
They had better fix their student services before they attempt to go "pro" academically. UVSC has got to have the worst student service departments in the state of Utah. Their lines are far too long, the service is awful, and their people just don't care. Case in point: try to get anyone to pick up the phone in their financial aid department or try to make an appointment to see the registrar about an appeal. And the people are so rude! Don't ever speak to the financial aid counselors about getting extra loans. The lady is so rude it makes you want to drop out of school for lack of support. Change that, then get back to us, UVSC!

If we are talking about athletics. The school needs to put in track facility. They have to rent a high school facility from Alpine school district to practice on. They can't even host a meet because it is not their facility. This facility can be used for the team, Intramurals, PE, students, faculty and staff and the community. Maybe even for a future football team. Start the building now for when you need a stadium for football.

They need to get into an athletic conference--desperately. SUU's Summit League is still the best bet, and the heat should continue to be applied to that league to let UVSC in. As well as their basketball program has done as an independent, it certainly won't be a dragdown like IPFW, whom they admitted.

UVSC needs to fix a lot of things before they add new programs. The student services are inadequate and unprofessional: agreed. The math dept. has the lowest success rate in the state and needs to be revamped: agreed. The staff is indifferent to real student success: in general, agreed. Classes required for majors are offered at inconvenient times and places; scheduling preference is given to general education classes. Yet UVSC academic chairs complain that retaining students through graduation is a difficult thing for the school to achieve. With the exception of some technical, the business, and the nursing majors, the courses offered in most majors are narrow in breadth, because the tenured faculty is small. PhD. recipients are very outnumbered by adjuncts. UVSC is addressing the PhD. shortage, but what about the availability of classes in terms of time slots and academic exposure?

No. Utah sees a major earthquake every 350 years. Last one? 350 years ago.
