Region 3 roundup: Bingham cross country runs hot and cold

On the girls side, it sounds like Kearns is going through the same things that Hillcrest is dealing with this season. They've got four solid girls with six total. But two of the four are dealing with injuries. Soccer is the sport of choice at Hillcrest and they're not even making it to state, which they have done every year for quite some time.

Bingham Cross Country has a history of runners quiting for different reasons. Many due to Coach Arbogast's abusive and extreme tendencies.

I agree Coach Arbogast is way over the top. Coach Arbogast is verbally abusive. Even going to the extreme of telling young runners that they are mentally weak and sending them to hand picked psychologists. I wonder if the National Coach of the year panel knows that? The sport of Cross Country would and will be forever better off without him.

I've run with Logan and he didn't quit because of Arb's "abusive" techniques. he had his own reasons for himself. I run for Arb right now and don't think he's abusive in anyway. Maybe you're just too weak for the sport of cross country. I think that the school is losing a great coach when he leaves.

Just a word of support for a great coach. No coach is going to please every athlete. Look at the results. Coach Arbogast's record of titles and his success in helping athletes continue running on the collegiate level is unparalleled in Utah. Arb, keep up the good work.

I am a mother of a current bingham runner and have nothing but PRAISE for coach Arbogast. He has made a huge difference in my runners life! Running is the vehicle for life lessons that he teaches the runners. Logan quitting had nothing to do with the coaching staff! Bingham has an AWESOME program and we are very proud to have Arbogast as part of it!

I have had three children involved with Track and Cross Country at Bingham for the past seven years. Coach Arbogast is an exceptional coach as well as a devoted individual to the success of his runners on and off the field. He spends countless hours in their behalf. I am grateful for the POSITIVE training and influence he has had in the lives of my children.

I too can agree with my teamate. Arb is an awesome coach. You guys must have been jv runners that never made varsity. It's okay some people just weren't meant to run fast. He has helped me come so far in running!

(this song is dedicated to you runners, its to the tune of the gaston song in beauty and the beast) noooooooo ooooone trains like they do, no one fights like they do, no one can even compete like they do, they are so very friendly, but fast and enduring, they run till they want to throooow uuuuppppp.

Coaching against Arbogast for several years has shown to me what a quality coach he is. His athlete's are well trained and tough to beat. I find it hard for anyone to complain about his coaching methods.

Copper Hills, they won't even challenge binghams boys for the region crown. Binghams already got it in the bag.

What does Copper Hills have to do with any of this? Arb is a great coach and so is Rushforth. Our boys team have a bunch of great runners that are dedicated hard runners that have fun.

I just want to voice support for Coach Arb!

He is more dedicated to the kids than any coach I have ever met. I cannot believe that ANYONE is even questioning his coaching methods. He has genuine concern for each athlete on the team - and I would never believe that he would use abusive techniques.

Arb was a great coach to not only myself, but many other athletes. Any runner would be so lucky to have Arb be their coach! He continues to be a part of my running and life in general. Arb's coaching techniques are known throughout the country and many coaches seek advice from Arb.

Arb is awesome! Keep up the great work!

great choice of wording for copper hills you gave them a good look on the team. they are doing a little better especialy that the boys team was not that good last year and I like what I hear GO COPPER HILLS

Coach Arb is the best. I flew out to Utah for a teaching conference a few years ago and had some extra time on my hands. I called a coach whom i had never met nor had any contact with ever. 30 minutes later, he met me at the olive garden in downtown SLC and we talked training for 3 hours. I was floored. He gave up his time to meet with a nobody from Kentucky.
I would do anything or go anywhere for this man. I am very lucky to call Arb a friend!

arb is the best coach out there. he has so much knowledge. my advice to current runners is to talk to that man as much as you can because he can tell you everything you need to know to be the best runner you can be. my respect for arb is endless, and it saddens me to know that there are other ex-bingham runners that were so narrow minded that they couldn't identify the help that arb was trying to give them. arb changed my life, he opened so many doors for me that never would've been opened without his help. arb tells it like it is, and if you can't take it.... well then maybe you should do another sport.... like lacrosse.
