Andersen's comments were very possibly geared to under-mine Wilson's campaign in favor of bolstering Christensen's numbers. I call foul on Andersen for that absurd publication. For a woman to succeed Andersen in office would, I believe, provide a boon for other women who secretly have an ambition to run for public office but feign examples or precedent. It is true that politics is a masculinized pursuit, historically speaking. However, hypothetically speaking, if two candidates campaigned for one mayoral position with precisely the same qualifications but having gender as the only principle difference between them, I would bet that gender would provide a boon for the popularity of the female candidate, but being a male would not be a boon for the male candidate. I believe Wilson's XX chromosomal status gave her a beneficial distinction.
