Shell is right. Governor Huntsman should check his political ambitions at the door instead of pandering to the center on global warming. Its nice and delusional to run around with Schwarzennegar and Kennedy's in California and talk of Solar and Wind and the future of Hydrogen, but unfortunately, the rest of us live in the here and now and it will cost trillions of dollars to switch our economy away from stratified charge combustion engines. In the mean time, congratulations to Shell and Hoffmeister, they, more than our Governor, understand that Low Emission Diesel fuel is the best and ONLY WAY AMERICA CAN REDUCE GHG AND REALISTICALLY OBTAIN ENERGY INDEPENDENCE. Governor Huntsman and Governor Scwarzennegar will become poster boys for high fuel costs over the next decade. Not hydrogen, wind nor solar will ever work for LIQUID FUELS. We HAD BETTER start getting real with the Green / Enviro movement. Not only will ethanol destroy our ocean (and therefore our main co2 filter), but also the volume of "renewables" WILL NEVER AMOUNT TO MORE THAN 10% OF OUR liquid fuels. The longer we wait to face this reality, the harder the fall (higher the price of our liquid fuels) will become. This is an upcoming U.S. / Global disaster whether you are democrat or republican. THIS IS WHAT IS HAPPENING. If we really want to do something about global warming, we should start by introducing Low Emission Diesel derived from Oil Shale. Are we smarter than European enviros? No, we are not. So why haven't we figured out that this is the direction they went. Kerogen crude from oil shale IS A PREMIUM FEEDSTOCK FOR THIS TYPE OF LOW EMISSION DIESEL.

Write it down: "Oil Shale will become the most environmental fuel in America - bar none."

I agree with you Charles, the real potential for oil shale is Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel. This has the potential to significantly lower emissions for GHG's. The money the U.S. could save on our oil deficit to the radicals could also be used to finance the greener technologies. Oil Shale will happen. I read where these Low Emission Diesels are about the same impact as a hybrid!!!
