Provo firm to produce movie on Emma Smith

Fantastic! I hope the movie will depict Emma in a fair light. She was an amazing woman, strong, loyal, an "elect lady." She has been criticized for many years, unjustly I believe. She was the love of Joseph's life, and he was hers. I could not have borne what they had to bear. Sis. Jones, I have read a book you wrote, and truly enjoyed it.

It's about time. I hope the film is respectful of her, she was truly a great Lady.I have always had a special feeling of love and respect for Sister Emma Smith.I know I could never have endured the test she went through.

This is being backed by Candlelight media: have you ever heard of them before? Keep your expectations low: this is going to be a low budget, poor production quality, disappointment. The subject matter looks great, but mark my words, this will not be a good film.

This is long, long, long, long, long overdue. No matter what happened to her and her family after the exodus from Nauvoo, Emma Smith deserves to be heard, and whatever it is we will hear, I know it will be good to the ears. She will always be the Elect Lady--and I hope that's what the film will portray.

Good luck to Candlelight in their production, and let's keep our faith bright, that whatever the budget, it will be positive, and tell the truth about Emma. It is not important that the film be entertaining. It is important that it be truthful and fair.

That should read "first wife" of Joseph Smith.

Probably "truthful and fair" will not help to keep "our faith bright". I doubt this story will deal with the many marriages of Joseph, and if it did, it's hard to imagine it keeping anybody's faith bright.

You are so synical that is is likely that truth could not find its way through. You have concluded that the other marriages Joseph practiced are wrong and therefore faith darkening. The brightness of the full truth will indeed be enlightening, and those seekers after truth and the will of God will have a bright understanding of revelation and its liberating freedom from fear of the unknown and misunderstood.

Hope you can open up your mind to accept the truth and what is represents.

I am WAY excited about this film!! I myself had negative feelings towards Emma once, but now I know she is truly a chosen daughter of God. Remember this is Emma's story, not Joseph's polygamy story. This is going to help those who doubted her understand what an amazing woman she truly was. Those making it would do no less for her. Watch for more to come regarding telling Emma's story... this is only the beginning.

Sounds like most of you know nothing of the history of Emma Smith. Looks like the LDS church has suceeded in the white wash of its own history. Surely this film will only reaffirm what you want to believe.

I find it very interesting that this movie is being filmed at the same time that I am working on having my one-woman play about Emma Smith and polygamy produced. I did a reading of it in August for the Sunstone Symposium in SL, UT. (you can download the aduio file from their website if you care to for $4.00). I think it possible to tell her side of the story uncensored and still have the Spirit present in abundance. She was an amazing, complicated woman - fully Jospeh's equal. I hope the film is historically correct and that they don't leave out any sections of her history that may be thought of as non-lds faith promoting. I hope they discuss her support of James J Strang after Joseph's death. Tell of her handing over the corrected Bible mamuscripts to Joseph Smith III and supporting him in the New Organization. Show her burning a copy of 132 after reading it. I'd love to see a well produce Mormon movie that isn't "sugar coated" for once.

I'm interested in the movie. Call me naive but I've never personally heard someone criticize Emma, though I've heard many say that she has received it. It is funny how we are so quick to jump to conclusions, especially in this information age. I think that any vitriol held for her is as pointless as the mindless drivel from the critics of this not-yet-seen movie. Good job to anyone who makes an uplifting movie of a worthy person or topic. It is easy to be a divisive cynic, but it is difficult and ennobling to extol virtues whenever found. If you want historical veracity, create a documentary.
