Pleasant Grove cannot compete with Provo in terms of ability to draw
cooperations, companies and people. To not build a convention center in Provo
because Pleasant Grove already has one is very small thinking on Mr.
White's part.

Everybody in Utah Valley thinks they are in a great place with lots of growth.
This type of inaccurate thinking really hurts the valley in the long run because
it sets up a false hope. Utah Valley, while somewhat decent, is not a very good
place to raise a family and it's not very fun either. I know they have a
study that recommends a convention center, but I wonder if there's actually
a true need or is this just wishful thinking? Studies can be botched, just ask
Rocky Anderson or Hillary Clinton.

I don't blame Provo for their wait and see approach. Unfortunately if the
Pleasant Grove structure becomes reality, visitors to the area are going to get
a nasty shock when they realize that they have to get around a broken freeway
system just to get from Provo to Pleasant Grove. I have no doubt that the
location in Pleasant Grove, right off I-15, seems perfect, but it also assumes
that I-15 will be usable for the indefinite future. However, last time I
checked, I-15 reconstruction is scheduled to begin in the next decade and they
is still no viable alternate connecting Provo, where the airport is, to Pleasant
Grove and points North.

i think it will be awesome if downtown provo built a convention center. more
highrises are planned: 9 story zions bank, 10 story university towers, and the
expansion of the courts building. also, another highrise is planned for south
of the provo tabernacle. a natural fit would be downtown. let's hope it
still happens. utah valley, and provo NEED this convention center for tax
dollars and for a well-rounded civic and business community.
