Should Taylorsville join split?

I can't help but think about how much better things would be if all these folks who want to split put their energies into improving Granite. Rather than split the community with all the east vs west, have vs have-not chatter, maybe they could try and unite people and work toward improving the system.

there are oh so many opinions within any school district, large or small. i think Granite and Jordan have just grown beyond what a school district should represent. if the patrons want a smaller district, they need to know the $ costs and vote on it. they will still have conflicts just within Taylorville, if they splint that off.

It seems a little more than hypocritical of the east side communities to suddenly want Taylorsville to join their attempts to break away from the Granite School District. As this has become an east side vs. west side issue, the east side proponents of the split suddenly invite a west side community to join with them so they can say it is no longer an east-west issue? Taylorsville and Mayor Wall should refuse to go along with this ploy and not become the token west side city for an east side group attempting to separate themselves from the "poor" west side.

The east side of Granite has not "suddenly" reacted to public clamor and "graciously" invited Taylorsville "into the fold" to "placate" west side residents.

In fact, Mayor Wall has supported Taylorsville studying the issue for some time. Due to the special session, now he has a new tool to do so.

While there are many issues within Granite District, to assume that those who had supported the split were not interested in working towards an internal solution is categorically false. Those most interested in pursuing a new school district are typically the ones who've tried repeatedly within the system to have their concerns addressed, and have (for whatever reasons) felt rebuffed.

Again, there is no "ploy" for Mayor Wall to fall into. He's a very intelligent man and a competent leader - one of the best in the county.

Regardless, any decision in Granite District is most likely not to occur until 2008 at the earliest. Ten weeks ('till Nov Election) is a very short time to put together a new/amended study AND educate the populace. But who knows, they might give it a try. They'll have to eliminate East Millcreek from the Study as the County Counci has been clear about what they think.

It seems to me when we continue to struggle to pay for education that creating new districts will add the cost of new administrators, district offices, and many other expenses. Maybe the local school boards should be changed if some people in the district don't feel represented correctly.
