In fact, Mayor Wall has supported Taylorsville studying the issue for some time. Due to the special session, now he has a new tool to do so.
While there are many issues within Granite District, to assume that those who had supported the split were not interested in working towards an internal solution is categorically false. Those most interested in pursuing a new school district are typically the ones who've tried repeatedly within the system to have their concerns addressed, and have (for whatever reasons) felt rebuffed.
Again, there is no "ploy" for Mayor Wall to fall into. He's a very intelligent man and a competent leader - one of the best in the county.
Regardless, any decision in Granite District is most likely not to occur until 2008 at the earliest. Ten weeks ('till Nov Election) is a very short time to put together a new/amended study AND educate the populace. But who knows, they might give it a try. They'll have to eliminate East Millcreek from the Study as the County Counci has been clear about what they think.
