When we bring the 10,000 Idaho BYU fans down for the game on Sept. 1st, I know that most of them will be wearing blue. I agree that when we go to the games it is important to not only wear the right color, but to wear something BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY!!!!!!

I think BYU fans should wear Royal Blue which is our authenic Cougar color that was changed during the Master Bateman tenure. Their was no imput to change the school colors, from the alumni, former band members, cheerleader, athletes, etc. Royal blue in the stadium would be much more impressive than Cougar fans wearing Utah State Navy Blue. It really galls me the arbritary change was made as I understand it from some kind of economic standpoint, you could sell more Navy than our Royal Blue Color. The University of Kentucky gets 70,000 plus fans to wear Royal Blue to their games, which is as beautiful as it is impressive. Lets have a FREE vote on this internet site from Cougar fans, Royal Blue or Navy Blue, so we can freely make the decision! Sidney

Is this for real? BYU must be the only Div. 1 school in America to have to beg it's fans to wear the teams colors. What's the deal, are you fans or not?

I have always like BYU and was upset when they changed their colors from Royal to that pukie blue that they have now. When I lived in Provo, I always
found a way to go to their games, when my work would allow me to do so. I always had a Royal Blue shirt on and blue shorts, yes, even in the times when it was cold and wet. True Blue all the way. And yes, we do have far better attendance and spirit
than Utah ever will. GO BYU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would you wear stilleto Heels on a hike up the canyon?
A Snowsuit to 7 Peaks? A speedo to go Skiing?
Wear school colors to the Football game... it isn't that hard... only 6 games a year... no big deal.

as for what Color is "blue"? Who cares... pick a blue and wear it...
And for those who claim we 'stole' our blue from USU...
There are hundreds of Elementary schools who are cougars, or have blue as well... You wouldn't accuse BYU of stealing from them. Sure USU isn't an Elementary school; but they certainly aren't in the Same realm as BYU... now if Oak Canyon Jr. High suddenly switched colors, USU might have and issue with them...

It will never matter if we all wear blue, the navy blue is so terribly passive that no one will notice. When will the marketing folks at byu figure out the Royal Blue is so much better..

I will wear my BYU hat and shirt and fly my BYU flag outside on gameday and I have the BYU logo on my car, and I live in Arizona! Get it together Utahns!

BYU could show some leadership and put blue seats in both the football stadium and the Marriott center.

My family will always be "true blue", regardless of the exact shade the school chooses.

Some people spend their time and money helping the homeless, destitute, sick or otherwise afflicted. Other people spend their time and money trying to get people to wear the same color shirt. Interesting priorities.
Max | 7:56 a.m. Aug. 24, 2007
I just can't believe there are people that take this stuff so seriously. I will probably come to some of the games and I will wear whatever I happen to put on that day (and I am sure most others will do the same). The game is won on the field, guys, not in the stands.
Stiffed | 8:29 a.m. Aug. 24, 2007
I bought 4 sets of season tickets. I did not get any coupons for a free shirt like the article said. Who's getting them?
Brock | 9:46 a.m. Aug. 24, 2007
Max, you have no clue.

Football is an emotional sport, if you think that the crowd has nothing to do with helping the players get more emotional you should watch the game on tv.

I sure hope you aren't the old guy that sits behind me this year and tells me to sit down all game long.

Be a fan, not a spectator, spectators should buy a ticket to a movie.

Brock | 9:49 a.m. Aug. 24, 2007
Allen, what a lame comment.

So what you're saying is no one should have a hobby other than feeding the homeless?

What do you do in your spare time, throw stones on chat boards?

Hey to you Keith Jay...lousy football atmosphere? Maybe you have been attending too many games outside of the state that allow alcohol to be served. If they can't buy the alcohol in the stadium, they drink it at the tailgate parties and come in drunk! The reason their fans are so rabid at the game is they are drunk and they don't know any better than to yell and scream their head off and act like idiots. Plus FOOTBALL IS THEIR RELIGION so they go overboard in how they act before, during and after the games. We have the right atmosphere here at BYU thank you very much! I agree that we NEED to wear the color BLUE--NOT WHITE-because EVERY team has white as their secondary color. This will help with the right atmosphere in our stadium. Whether they changed the shade of blue or not...get on the bandwagon and wear blue--today's shade if you can, but wear blue!
Rocko | 10:23 a.m. Aug. 24, 2007
If you won't wear the blue, you might as well wear red!

For those that complain about dark blue being a passive color, have you ever stood in front of the BYU football team in home jerseys? Find me one team that says we look passive! The marching band loves the new blue as well, and our uniforms are a vast improvement over yesteryear. The new blue simply looks better and is plenty intimidating, and we all avoid looking like Smurfs; the problem is that some people don't give it a chance.

It makes no sense to whine about the change unless you still wear royal blue on game day, and if you do, you're obviously a true Cougar fan, and it would help if you'd get with the program and give the team the support they're asking for. It's obvious they love the colors they wear, and they have a stronger sense of tradition than I've seen in years.

True Cougar fans don't take football so seriously that we think it's the purpose of life. However, it's great entertainment and loads of fun when you get involved. Plenty of respectable people come to BYU games, and many of them wear blue. Don't feel you need to be the one to wear a pink or green BYU shirt (or some other unrelated shirt) to express yourself at games. Wear them anywhere else, but please ... not in our house.

Finally, for those concerned about blue being hot to wear, consider the team in full pads, and the devoted marching band in thick blue wool and polyester uniforms before complaining about the heat. I can't imagine you're any more uncomfortable than they, and you're certainly not going to die from the heat. I don't recall anyone saying that sports are about comfort, anyway. Such whininess is unbecoming a true fan.

Go Cougars!!

Wow, this column generated quite the buzz.

Folks, this is Cheerleading 101. If you want to see what wearing the same color can do, go here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUsRHvIshU8

Wearing the same color translates to unified fans, which translates to better, louder atmosphere, and that translates to more fun, more wins, and even better recruiting.

Today Cougar Blue is the darker shade. Let's support the team by wearing this color. Please spread the word! Wear Cougar Blue! I like Royal, and if I had a magic wand, I'd go back...BUT let's be realistic. We're a darker shade now. Time to accept that.

IF we get this right, perhaps we can look at other options two or three seasons down the road. First, we gotta see if we can accomplish the current goal that Coach Mendenhall and the players have asked for..."Wear Cougar Blue to the games!" Is it that hard?

"Why not a white out?" White's every school's color, it doesn't identify us. White is also generally the color of the visiting team. Let's support the home team by wearing the color that BYU is known for...Blue.

"But it's too hot wearing Cougar Blue." Try wearing a football uniform.

Finally, as it gets cold, please cover yourself up w/ Cougar Blue sweatshirts, hoodies, ponchos, hats, etc. Also, don't be shy...encourage fans not wearing blue to hop on board (perhaps you could purchase some extra $5 shirts to take with you.)

If you have any other suggestions, ideas, or if you'd like to help in anyway, please email me @ byublueout@gmail.com

Thanks!

Tony

I don't have a problem with the bookstore selling multiple colors of BYU logo-wear. If you want something more stylish to wear to work or whatever, then get something pink or green if that's what you like. Just wear BLUE to the game! PLEASE!!
East Coast | 1:31 p.m. Aug. 28, 2007
Us folks out on the East Coast can't wait to watch the game! Oh wait...I mean read about it the next day. Thanks Comish!

Wow, how awesome was it to see entire families sporting their Cougar Blue gear to the Air Force Game. I've had season tickets for 30+ years, and I've never this before. Here's to hoping it can continue, great tradition! Hopefully BYU Marketing, etc. will stick with this so that it will last. I would prefer more emphasis on game atmosphere (wearing blue, etc) than on making Cosmo the Capital One Mascot of the year. Not sure what that brings BYU.

Go Cougars!
