what it all comes down too is that owner's of the mines do what they want. shut the mines down until they do what they are suppose too,maybe and only then they will do something.and OSHA well who pays them, they are a big joke, go to any large factory and see how people have to work. this country needs a Huge Walkout. i fell sorry for miners who work these jobs to raise families and the owners could not care less, it is all about Greed. they need to make the owners work in the mines everyday for a year to see how it feels and what the men have to go through. God Bless the miners.

Glad to see someone in the press do a little home work.

As a lay person, I wounder if they had left enough coal in place to support the roof? Or if there is unknown "weak area" in the supporting walls where the coal was not as strong relative to other areas?

It is my understanding that coal is not very strong when compressed.

Also, why was that company paying more in fines than the other companies?
