Sometimes government regulations are necessary to protect the health and safety of people as a balance against the capital market's profit motive to extract more and more money at the expense of human life. Neither pure market economy nor pure government control is preferable, but it appears that our Country has gone too far in the direction of business and corporate freedom and not enough attention to the purpose of government in preserving the health and welfare of the rest of us.

Everything about this is disturbing, to say the least, but what really gets me is the lack of communication for the miners.
We have audio and visual contact with people on the moon...... but we can't come up with at least some kind of signaling devise for the miners..??? I believe that man can do almost anything they put their minds to. We have proved that. How about some more effort in this direction.
My heart is aching for the families and friends directly experiencing this nightmare. Many share your pain. We are praying for you.

IF Congress gets a hold of it,your lawmakers will kick it around for years before action is taken. Business (big campaign $$$$) runs Congress. Congress will do to MSHA what is has done for OSHA..simply nothing! Take it from a 37year mine and smelter worker. OSHA as MSHA they are always 2 years too late! Where was the simpliest of communications with those work crews? none!

No means of communication..!!
That has turned this tragedy into a horror show. How can we send people into potentially dangerous places with NO means of tracking or contacting them?
The whole world has been watching this supposedly intelligent, supposedly rich in technologies nation play guessing games in matters of life and death. We've been punching costly, time consuming holes here and there in "attempts" to locate people---while the whole world is punching holes in our boasts of technical expertise and more importantly our GREAT concerns for people.
How ridiculous. Friends and foes alike are aware of faults and deficiencies.. and this one is a shame.

No. Utah sees a major earthquake every 350 years. Last one? 350 years ago.
