Smooth move on the part of the legislators fixated on splitting school districts...

1) Split the district, with Holladay City grabbing the Cottonwood kids it wants to go to Olympus and Skyling

2) Create "the narrow neck of land" legislation to tie east-side Cottonwood to the remnants of west-side Granite District

3) When the split happens, and there aren't enough students left to keep Cottonwood open, Granite District gets the blame for closing it, and the promoters of the east-side split get what they want

This is just another example of certain state legislators and city officials who really don't know anything about operating a school district wanting it their way -- never mind what is best for students. They are in such a hurry to get this done that they will say and do anything. If it's such a great plan another year to really study the issues. Westside may be happy to rid themselves of these egotistical saints.

Right On you are... right on! Why is there this need to rush, rush, rush and get everything done right now? They seem to want to say or do anything and promise anything to get this on the ballot. Don't be suprised when the "unintended consequences" surface later on.

Next step, back room closed Education Committee meetings in the state legislature. Most of that committee would love to see public schools fail, anyway.

This new proposal for Cottonwood High isn't the solution pro-division advocates would like you to think it is. What about the main feeder Jr. High, Bonneville? It would be in the new district as well as the majority of the elementary schools feeding into Bonneville Jr. High and Cottonwood High? Where are the students going to come from to feed into Cottonwood High? This is not an acceptable solution. Let's hope the Salt Lake County Council votes to keep this off the ballot--there are too many problems.
