Karl Rove was chief of the band of chickenhawks who trashed John Kerry in 2004. Unlike Kerry who has actually seen war, Rove and the rest had the gall to label Kerry's team "cut and run" Democrats. Rove shares responsibility for the ongoing loss of life in Iraq.

You don't mention whether those convictions and principles are "correct" convictions that guide our President. There in lies the question.

"But no one can accuse him of bending his convictions to fit popular will" As witnessed by 3,ooo+ dead Americans, massive national debt, an economy that has hummed along spinning off unconscionable wealth to the top one percent and chewing up and destroying the lives of the bottom 40%,200 year old constitutional priciples that have been discarded, and a resurgence of non democratic super powers.

Thank goodness for unwavering convictions.

Karl Rove was never elected student-body president of Olympus High School. The winner that year was Richard Moore. Karl was elected senate president, which was pretty prestigious at our school. Obviously Lee Davidson didn't check the facts of his story to carefully.

"Utah Boy"? Does that make Cheney "Wyoming Boy"? I notice that the remembrances of Rove don't actually include anything DONE FOR his high school - just that he was elected. The only "conviction" I know about Rove is the conviction that "Our guy will win, the law be damned." Praising him for "convictions" like that is like praising Count Dracula for his great "thirst".

Anyone who has ever participated in the awards process of the military knew instantly that Rove's "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" was complete BS. Unfortunately the majority of Americans have no clue about that awards process and sucked up Rove's lies of ommission. The additional scandal of the Plame outing and the tainting from the entire administration on pre-war intelligence has left Rove with a clearly questionable moral character. Any elected public office should hold integrity above all other concerns and Rove contributed to soiling the office of President.

The only appropriate comments for his departure are "good bye" and "good riddance."

Let me get this straight: a Church owned and run paper sings the praises of someone who, based on his convictions, has, though not yet indited, lied, cheated, and stolen elections. And enabled Bush / Cheney in many of their most dangerous anti-Constitutional and even criminal acts to have their war, and their spy network, all their own way. Why? Because he was powerful and had conviction, he wins at all cost, and mostly, he was "one of us!"

His role is downplayed in all "conservative" commentary to make Bush look good and allow Rove to slip into his next campaign and play the same "Swift Boat" politics there. But his fingerprints are over EVERYTHING Bush has done,much of it a great or impending disaster for the USA.

This doesnt say much good for the ethics of a body (the Church, or its paper) that is supposed to hold ethics as an important and esteemed value. Its "all about us" while turning a blind eye to an ethically deficient native son's transgressions. Why didnt you mention that at least one of his major professors said he never learned to be honest....?

Thanks for being consistently self-serving, Des News. I am shocked you have comments allowed here now. Its a good thing you retain the right to edit them into disappearance. Look who you support! (all things at all times Bush / Rove,no matter how odious!) CHECK YOUR ETHICS.

Rove lived in Denver before his father moved to SLC. Rove dropped out of the University of Utah when the draft ended. Rove apparently didn't care enough about the U of U enough to get a degree from it. For it's size, SLC is know for frauds and schemes. Remember, the White Salamander? Why did Mitt get the job at the Salt Lake Winter Games. It was the infamous Olympic scandal. Rove is a product of Utah culture. I don't see much in Rove to be proud of.

My goodness! A surprising number of Dems read the Deseret News. It's too bad these people believe their own propoganda so sincerely. The KGB would be proud, except for the poor spelling. Well, there will be a day of awakening, and then we'll all see clearly, not just in black and white. Nobody's perfect, and we Republicans sure do turn the cheek a lot. Those of you who commented: you are evidence of the tolerance of the editors regarding being non-abusive.

I'm a liberal. I believe that a leader should be a moral example and churches should stand behind honesty. I couldn't vote for Clinton. Admittedly Bush and Mitt make Clinton look more more moral by relative comparisons, I still won't defend Clinton. This is a conservative paper owned by the LDS Church. They support Bush lying business owner who put profit before people and they are Mitt's free media outlet. Don't talk morality to me.

Following what the opinion polls say is why Bill Clinton will be remembered as a much better President than George Bush. Clinton followed the will of the people, Bush went his own way and tried to force his ideas and agenda upon us. Oh, yes W will leave a legacy, the usless war in Iraq and all with the help of Karl Rove.

History will...no, let me rephrase that. George Bush and Carl Rove have already been judged. They will be remembered as the very worst this country has ever had lead them. That this paper would praise Rove is a testament to a deep delusion entertained by the right wing in this great land. The "uniter" will become know as the "worst President of The United States", and Rove will be remembered as his brain. What a legacy.

I beg your pardon, but I don't get any this. I've kept up with political news for years, often getting it first hand when possible. I really don't know where you people have been getting your so-called information from and your hatred. President Bush is a good man and so is Karl Rove. They also have class.
