I live out of state. All I have is my cell phone. I HAVE TO PAY $5 to set it up, each phone call is $3 connection fee AND 45 CENTS A MINUTE! For 15 minutes it cost ME $9.75 !! Then you get cut off before the 15 minutes are done SO you have to pay reconnection AGAIN to try and finish your call. I APPLAUD you Mr. Brian Bernard. It's nice to see that somebody is watching how our money is really being spent. And "YES" we do have a choice, Mr. Cook, But does family mean anything to you? And NOT everyone is Guilty.

Until, Mr.Cook has walked in the shoes of someone who has had or has a loved one in jail, he should not give his opinion.
It is absolutley rediculous how much it costs, I understand them wanting to make some money off the jail calls, but I literally pay 1000$ a month on my phone bill from jail calls. What am I going to do? Let my husband sit and stare at a brick wall thinking about me all day? And I know you might say well, "He got himself there".. funny thing is, he didnt, I was there when he "supposuvly" commited the crime, the justice system is corrupt!

I can't believe that inmates can call almost whenever they wish and as often as they wish. What kid of punishment is that?
No wonder the jails are crowded, they are more like a motel.

I think that Jail is a joke. Staring at a wall is boring, not a punishment. How about community service, paying off debts to society, resitution? My incarcerated husband agrees that his "so called" punishment is hurting me more than him. Most inmates become institutionalized and when they are finally released they don't have the skills to function in society and most likely return to their...um "motel".
PS Inmates can't call whenever or as often as they like. Get some education Clarence. The family also has a choice whether to answer, & we will b/c we love them. It isn't right that the county makes money off of people in this situation. It exacerbates the problem and creates more debt, more depression & potentially more crime.

the psychological depression of staying in a cell 23
hours a day does make people sick...
deprivation of sunlight will make you mentally ill,its called s.a.d. or winter depression & @ its
ultimate causes people to go postal-homocidle!

you want a person to go crazy put them in a cell for even one month & it will effect their mental capasity thats why they have social workers & psych Dr's avalable...there is more but thats another story!!! L.
