The elephant in the room | 11:46 a.m. May. 22, 2008
Put players in the wrong positions and use the wrong system and the quality of their play goes significantly down.

Findley goes up front, not the wing. Demo is def mid, not Cutler. Andy comes off the bench, not starts. And so on, and so on, and so on.

Stay steady and stop making changes! Create consistent chemistry in player's roles. Build a depth chart 2+ deep so you don't have to move players to compensate.

Things are starting to look like Elinger all over again...
Mantilla a 1, again | 5:13 p.m. May. 17, 2008
Honestly, Mantilla may be one of the worst defenders I have ever seen. Does Olave have a broken leg? That is the only reason Mantilla should start over him. The fact that Kreis likes Mantilla over Olave makes me seriously doubt his judgement.
being realistic | 5:03 p.m. May. 16, 2008
I don't agree with the ratings. The ratings need to take into account other factors than just a win or loss. We were doomed to fail when we didn't switch to 5 in the middle when we saw that Co had that format. Kyle needed to be in the middle with Kenny and Andy Each game Deuchar has missed chances and it is about time Nunez is given a try and Deuchar gets benched. I give the lowest grade to the coaching staff for getting out coached.

By far the worst performance this year! This was the first game in a tough road series and a win would have made the trip a bit more comfortable. They had a chance of hitting our rival while down and they blew it!! No passion at all. Yes Kreis has his share of the blame (substitutions...Cordoba not in for most of the game?) however he wasn't the one throwing away possesion. From Rimando's distribution to the midfield's lack of interest, it looked like crap on the big ESPN stage!
RE: Captain Cross & effort | 2:54 p.m. May. 16, 2008
These two have hit it on the head. Captain Cross is spot on w/ the service on the crosses...there isns't any!!! Wingert occasionally puts in a good cross, Morales puts in good crosses, but there is nobody else on this team that can! If they can, they aren't doing it. effort has hit it on the head as well with Findley. You don't play him on the wing. You get him up top with that speed. Colorado's 3 man back line should've been abused time and time again if we had Robbie's pace up top. I'm tired of these poor decisions by the coaching staff. What is Jason going to blame it on this time? Try emulating Sloan Kreisbaby lay blame with yourself and the team, and stop whining and blaming other things for your poor decisions

Obviously you don't know nothing of soccer you concider RSL lost for the defense and where are the goals? on 90 minutes did not make a goal and failing for more than 70 minutes the opponents didn't make a goal. Know look.

Wow that was ugly. I have been one of Williams biggest supporters all year but this game he truly played into the hands of all his critics who say he is a lazy soccer player. He looked terribly slow. What is worse, Beckerman looked exactly the same. He is a guy known for his work ethic and stingy defensive effort in the middle of the park. However, maybe scoring more goals is going to his head. His effort was terrible and he looked disinterested in chasing anybody. I don't think I saw him challenge anybody all night. I actually think that Dema did work his tail off and was everywhere on defense.

I absolutely agree with Cordoba that changes needed to be made much earlier. It was clear early in the game that both Williams and Beckerman were a step slow. Cordoba needed to come on at half or even be starting. Cutler is solid but provides nothing special. He looks shaky on the ball and his distribution is poor.

Sadly enough, in our biggest rivalry it looked like nobody on RSL cared enough to bring their best effort.
keep it real | 11:13 a.m. May. 16, 2008
I dont agree that Williams should not take the corner kicks. I thought he did a good job on the corners except for 1 around the 75 fifth min, he also had some nice crosses. If only our Forwards would FINISH! Overall this was not a good game for RSL but I believe in this bunch of guys. They will will get the job done!

I dont agree that Williams should not take the corner kicks, he did a pretty good job with the corners except for 1,and had a couple good crosses. If only we had forwards that FINISHES! we would be winning games. Overall this was not a good game for RSL, but I believe in this bunch of guys that they can get the job done.

I realized that we are entering the time of the season where traditionally RSL starts inserting "reserve-quality players" into the lineup in order to "mix things up". I know that we tend to keep guys who should be on the DL out of the lineup and not report it to the league. I know that was the case with Talley (prior to the trade) and Ian Joy. But come on already, Kreis? What was the point of throwing Dusty Kirby out there late in the game and leaving Olave on the bench? I also agree with Horrace who said that Dema should have switched to D-mid and we should have brought on Cordoba. Putting inexperienced players into a lineup on the road is not a way to generate wins and is not something a first place team does. Why do we do this with putting in our Reserves into the starting lineup year after year? I think Kreis has his "favorites" in Cutler and Kirby and for some reason doesnt want to play Olave and Cordoba as much as he should.

I was really hoping to see Cordoba finally get some play time. Let's give him a chance.
effort | 10:31 a.m. May. 16, 2008
Not sure why Kries didn't start the substitutions earlier when we still had a chance to win the game. None of the starters outside of Espindola and sometimes Beckerman looked like they were really in the game.

I would have liked to see findley up top instead of on the wing, he is not a winger and is the fastest player on the field, what the heck is he doing on the wing?

Cordoba deserved to come in around 55 min when we were losing what little control of the game we had. Cutler looked somewhat Talley-esque last night. Slow to react and make passes, good containment on Gomez though.

Our midfield got dominated, they packed the center (Labrocca and Mastroeni were both playing D-mid) and forced us outside: we have no wing play and we got hosed for it.

Kries had better be learning from all these mistakes he is making or this is going to be a disappointing season. So much potential, yet we are 2-4-2.

Dallas could be pretty interesting next weekend!
Captain Cross | 10:02 a.m. May. 16, 2008
We need somebody who can put in a cross from the corners and from the wide positions. Morales does pretty well, and Wingert also, but I think the lack in our ability to cross is what kills us. We are not a dangerous team from the wide positions, and so the attack options are limited. If we could get somebody on the wing to start putting better crosses into the box, especially with Deuchar present, we might be able to diversify our attacking options.

RSL flat out deserved to lose last night... all because of Kreis' coaching decisions. I'm sorry, but Cordoba deserved to start over Cutler or even Williams. While I'm not as down on Andy as I have in past seasons, he is not starting or 80 minute quality. He's 30 minute substitute quality.

We really missed the creative attack that Morales brings and it's obvious slow, technical Andy and the confused redheaded step-child Cutler were not the one's to bring it. Cordoba's getting hosed and this team is as well.
Horrace | 9:41 a.m. May. 16, 2008
I dissagree with the cutler grade, he had some bad give-aways and didn't seem to help the possesion in the midfield. I think Dema should have been in the holding spot and Cordoba given a chance to show what kind of player he is.
Disappointed | 8:53 a.m. May. 16, 2008
Last night looked more like a high school soccer game than a professional game. So many horrible passes, not nearly enough shots, and Cutler? Honestly? I mean him no disrespect, but if he is going to be in the midfield he needs to create plays. He failed to do that. Cordoba would have been a better choice to start.
Also, why change a working formula? Why put Mantilla in when Olave is controlling the back line so well? If Mantilla gets beat, fouls or has a hand ball. Olave does a better job at containing and shielding the ball.
Better luck next time Real.
Juice Box Guy | 8:24 a.m. May. 16, 2008
I was a bit shocked to see Cutler starting. I dont think he is completely ready for it. We definitely missed Morales and I think our offense is a lot different without him. I think we clearly lost this game because of the midfield play. I would be mad if I was Cordoba as well. He should have gotten more playing time and I think our offense picked up in the past when he was in there. I cant figure out why Kreis has him ahead of Cutler on the depth chart. By the way, he isnt our highest paid player, that's Morales. Also where was Olave?
Anonymous | 8:01 a.m. May. 16, 2008
Ok, lets either give Cordoba a real chance or let him walk. I am getting as frustrated with his play time as he obviously is. Come on Jason, give Cordoba a real chance.
Tyler | 7:59 a.m. May. 16, 2008
I felt like Andy Williams and Espindola were two lone bright spots for RSL.
Ryan | 6:58 a.m. May. 16, 2008
Fairly good grading, overall. I would have switched the grades for Wingert and Beltran, personally. Beltran is playing like a rookie, and I don't think he ever had control of his side of the field. Wingert didn't defend particularly well, but he sends in very good crosses, and probably should've had an assist yesterday. Mantilla was terrible. Deuchar really missed some golden opportunities, which has been the story for him all year. His new nickname is "Dr. Almost Goals". Cordoba should've been on for Kovalenko at halftime. It is pathetic how we are treating him. Isn't he our highest-paid player? Ridiculous.
Wasted Opportunities | 6:50 a.m. May. 16, 2008
Why does Williams continue to take corners? He often overshoots and places balls behind the attack. Last night was ridiculous! Kreis should have another player take the corner kicks. Need better and consistent service.
Can there be negative numbers?! | 1:52 a.m. May. 16, 2008
Here are my grades:

Rimando(5)...The two goals he gave up he was left out to dry by the defense.

Beltran(4)...The rookie did ok, but couldn't keep up at times with Colorado's attacks.
Mantilla(2)...I'd go lower, but none of the other ratings truely describe what I witnessed. Had one assist, and could have had a couple more...all for Colorado!
Borchers(5)...About the only solid player on the back line, but still was not great.
Wingert(5)...Did ok pushing forward, nothing noteworthy though.

Kutler(6)...Decent showing in his first start this season. Did well containing Gomez.
Kovalenko(5)...Had to help Beltran out a lot, never got into the flow.
Beckerman(4)...His game was off today. Wasn't able to attack as much as was needed.
Williams(4)...All I can say is, Morales please hurry back! Williams is much better at home.

Espindola(6)...Did all he could to attack, but came up empty.
Deuchar(5)...Had a couple of good chances to put goals in, but also failed.

Findley(4)...Where's last year's Findley?! Another abismal game from one of the brightest talent on the team!
Cordoba & Kirby(6)...I'll lump them together since neither got real time in. When can we finally see more of Cordoba?! If he's that great, give him more time! Please?!
