Gov. Leavitt's top 10 Accomplishments
Michael O. Leavitt is the newest member of the Deseret News Editorial Advisory Board. He's back in private life now as chairman of the Leavitt Partners consulting firm, but during his 16 years of public service — governor of Utah, 1993-2003; administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, 2003-05; U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, 2005-09 — Leavitt instituted and implemented a multitude of policies and programs that positively impacted hundreds of millions of lives. In honor of Gov. Leavitt's distinguished service, the Deseret News recalls 10 major accomplishments from his public service.
(Note: this list of accomplishments is unranked, i.e., there is no intent or attempt to make the apples-to-oranges comparisons which would be necessary to distinguish or differentiate one accomplishment from the others.)

Lets hope Leavitt cleans house on all these liberals who have taken over the DNEWS and return it to respectability~
I loved #10. "Signed and applied historic clean-air rules". All while I choke and gag on the wonderful clean air we benefit from in the Salt lake Valley this winter. Cough-cough-choke-choke!
Now what are the 10 most important things he could have helped accomplish but failed to. Does preventing Whirling Fish disease sound familiar?
To TRUST | 11:46 a.m.
The DesNews would be a LOT more respectable if hadn't started promoting, and pandering to, Leavitt. I really wonder what they're going to get out of their efforts.
The top 10? I thought it was a joke!
David Letterman would be proud of the DNews for trying to keep the jokes rolling.
He gave the state whirling and fired any person that tried to keep it out of our streams & lakes.
He led the the crooked, "TRUTH" 11:46 Conservatives do not understand truth they twist it to their benefit.
I-15, the Olympics, strong economy, light rail, champion of technology -- these are very strong accomplishments.
Today's politicians would do well to lead like this.
Thanks Mr. Leavitt for doing so much good for our state.
Thank you Governor Leavitt !!!
Governor, thank you for your service. With easy proof I can tell you the vast majority of Utahns feel you helped our state in a substantial way. I feel badly if you are reading any of the comments from perma-angry individuals; they don't represent the majority of Utah and there is proper prescription medication for them out there.
Hey DarkStar, I m sure all this "cough-cough-choke-choke!" is from Governor Leavitt isn't? I bet its all a conspiracy... o wait... its the inversion from the Rocky Mountains.
Leavitt was post partisan before it was cool. He approached public policy like an entrepeneur. He believed government could be innovative, efficient and resourceful, and he approached every issue with that optimism. Those were good years for our state.
This is a solid list of achievements. While there are many who played significant roles in each accomplishment and to whom we owe our thanks, the common thread in each was Leavitt's steady leadership. As Utah navigates through the present environment, we need our current leaders to go beyond management, look around the corner and lead the state to new heights. Utah has a legacy of good leaders and I confident that others will pick up the Leavitt's torch and lead out.
