In college football, winning isn't the only factor. Who you beat, and how, is a vital part of moving up the rankings and getting into a good bowl game. So each week during the 2012 season, we'll take a look at how Utah State's past and future opponents performed.

Last week: Lost at Cal, 50-31
The T-Birds were hanging with the Golden Bears through the first half, but they just didn't have it in them to stay with Cal for four quarters. Not bad for a Big Sky team, though.
Next up: Saturday, Sept. 15 vs. New Mexico Highlands
Last week: Lost at Utah State, 27-20 in overtime
The Utes lost a heartbreaker to the Aggies in Logan, and with starting quarterback Jordan Wynn again injured, they'll have to bounce back in a big way against BYU.
Next up: Saturday, Sept. 15 vs. # 25 BYU
Last week: Lost at Oregon State, 10-7
The Badgers were ranked #13 coming into Corvallis, but the Beavers won a defensive struggle and shut down Wisconsin RB Montee Ball. Ranked no longer, the Badgers now host a hungry Aggies team.
Next up: Saturday, Sept. 15 vs. Utah State
Last week: Lost vs. North Dakota State, 22-7
After beating Colorado to open the season, you might have expected more from the Rams. But a loss to FCS school North Dakota State just proves that no team in Colorado is very good this year.
Next up: Saturday, Sept. 15 at San Jose State
Last week: Lost to Northern Arizona, 17-14
The Rebels took Big 10 team Minnesota to three overtimes before losing 30-27. Pretty good, right? Wrong -- the Big Sky member Lumberjacks beat them in Vegas last weekend.
Next up: Friday, Sept. 14 vs. Washington State
Last week: Won vs. Weber State, 43-15
The Cougars took a while to get going against the Wildcats, but they ended up winning easily, with contributions from three different quarterbacks. BYU will be looking for revenge this week against Utah after last year's embarrassing 54-10 defeat.
Next up: Saturday, Sept. 15 at Utah
Last week: Won vs. UC Davis, 45-13
The Spartans nearly pulled off a massive upset in Week 1 at Stanford, but they fell just short, losing 20-17. Beating up on UC Davis from the Big Sky got the taste out of their mouths. They could be a threat in the WAC this year.
Next up: Saturday, Sept. 15 vs. Colorado State
Last week: Lost at Ohio, 51-24
The Aggies got shelled by the Bobcats, but they do have some skill in the passing game. They'll need it, because they'll likely be trailing in a lot of games.
Next up: Saturday, Sept. 15 at UTEP
Last week: Won vs. Texas A&M-Commerce, 27-16
UTSA (that's University of Texas at San Antonio) is enjoying its first year of FBS football under former Miami head coach Larry Coker. Whether they can challenge for the WAC title remains to be seen.
Next up: Saturday, Sept. 15 at Georgia State
Last week: Lost to Texas Tech, 58-10
After beating Houston on the road to open the season, Texas State turned some heads. Those heads turned right back the other way after the Bobcats got blown away by Texas Tech.
Next up: Saturday, Sept. 22 vs. Stephen F. Austin
Last week: Won at Houston, 56-49
Hurricane Isaac put Louisiana Tech's opener against Texas A&M on hold, but last week's performance had enough offense for two or three games. Whether the Bulldogs will be able to stop anyone is another question.
Next up: Saturday, Sept. 15 vs. Rice
Last week: Lost at Bowling Green, 21-13
The Vandals are...not great. They rank dead last among FBS teams in rushing yards and 98th in total offense. But transfer QB Dominique Blackman did show some promise against Bowling Green.
Next up: Saturday, Sept. 15 at #3 LSU
