Mormons in Olympic history

More than 2,500 athletes are expected to represent their countries and compete for medals in the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

Among them will be several Latter-day Saints from different countries, competing in various events.

This is a list of those Mormons competing in the Sochi games as well as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who have competed in past Olympics.

Although not all-inclusive, this list features many athletes who competed on one of the world's largest stages in the Summer or Winter Games, including triumphs and disappointments.

What about Clarence Robison? He competed in the 1948 summer games.

You also forgot Paul Cummings - 1984 Summer Games in the 10,000 Meters.

Midway, UT

Andrew Bown of Midway Utah was a member of a 2002 USA four man bobsled team. He was also a University of Utah football player.

Well the list did say that it wasn't all inclusive, so it did miss some people.


So where were all these arm-chair editors when the Deseret News was asking everyone to submit names of LDS Olympic athletes? That was the time to chime in. Every comment about an omission should begin: "I should have submitted this when you asked, but ..."
