Utah's top-10 conference tournament games of all time
Tom Smart, Deseret News archives
Since the Utah basketball team began playing conference tournament games in 1984, the Utes have been involved in some amazing games, from a 36-point blowout on an opponent's home court to a couple of last-second victories that seemed almost impossible to fathom at the time. Here is a look at 10 memorable games from Utah's conference tournament history, including two each from the 1997 and 2009 tournaments in Las Vegas.

This makes me long for my first love of Utah Basketball. Please Larry, bring back Utah basketball to it's former glory.
I was at a couple of those games. Loved every minute. Go Utes!
Tommy Connor dislocated his finger in the first half of that 1990 game with byu. The trainer popped it back in and he played most of the 2nd half before hitting the game winner. Connor was a very tough player.
That list just made me feel old. I remember each of those games and was attending the majority of them. I think I missed the game at El Paso and the game in Denver.
Here's to hoping Coach Krystkowiak and staff can revive the proud Utah basketball tradition. I'm extremely encouraged by the coaching this year ... yeah it's been tough to watch at times, but given some better talent I believe we'll see Utah back in the thick of things very soon.
Great Memories and I am sure Utah will rebound. Yes the level of talent is not really here this year, however there has been improvement which gives hope in the years to come.
Go UTES!!!!!!
Those were some great teams back in the day.
I hope coach K can get this program competing at the high level it used to. This year was difficult to watch but with more talent coming into the program next year, I'm hoping to see some serious improvement.
With next years games all being televised and the PAC12 money starting to come in, I'm sure this coaching staff will be able to get the Utes on a pretty fast recovery track.
Great memories. I hope the Dnews will follow-up with an article about the top 10 NCAA tournament games (wins!)
I was at the Special Events Center when Manny Hendrix hit his "miracle" shot.
With Utah behind, my buddy insisted that we leave the game because there was "no way" Utah was going to win. He quickly left the arena and waited for me outside; however, I slowly dragged my feet up the stairs because I have never liked the idea of leaving games early.
As I got to the top of the stairs, I turned and watched as Manny caught the ball in mid-air, turned and shot it into the basket. His feet never touched the ground. The arena exploded in bedlam with people screaming in disbelief at what had just happened.
How can anyone lose a game when they are ahead by one point, have the balls out-of-bounds and there is just one second left on the clock? Wyoming made a colossal mistake. All the Wyoming player had to do was throw it off a Utah defender's leg and the game would have been over.
After the winning shot, I ran outside as fast as I could and started "screaming" at my buddy that the Utes had won the game. He called me a "liar" and insisted I was pulling his leg. He didn't believe me until thousands of happy Utah fans came filing out of the arena.
It was a memorable game that I will never forget. Still to this day, whether it's high school, college, or the NBA; I do not leave games early . . . ever!

RE: the '85 Wyoming gaime:
I heard a Utah fan tell how he spent the time out telling his young sons why Utah could not possibly win the game. Then he spent considerable time after the game explaining how the Utes had won the game.
