Honorable mention: BYU vs. Tulane, 2001 Next » 1 of 12 « Prev
Had the Cougars been able to finish out the 2001 season stronger, this game could have finished in the top 10. In the first glimpse of a Gary Crowton-led offense, BYU delivered big points, scoring 49 in the first half to take a 21-point lead into the break in a 70-35 victory.

Three Cougars rushed for more than 100 yards, led by Luke Staley with 142 and three touchdowns, Brandon Doman with 115 and one score and Brian McDonald with 103 and three touchdowns. Doman also threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns as BYU netted 734 yards.

All wins over Utah rank in the top ten! Besides these, The '84 Wyoming game (if Bosco doesn't scramble for the first down we lose and no Natl Champs)
'85 Miami game.It was the most perfect game I've ever seen. Last years Texas game. It shook the College football world.

"This contest fell just outside of the top 10, due to the Cowboys finishing just 6-6 on the year."

Pretty synonymous with every team BYU played that year, huh?

Sah-WEEEEET! The one and only game I've attended at the stadium was BYU/Miami, 1990.

(Yep, I was providing some of that electricity.)

SLC, ut

The first significant win in the stadium was the year BYU won it's first conference championship with Virgil Carter at QB over Texas Western (UTEP - remember them from the basketball movie winning the national tittle about the same time). They were then ranked a top 20 team. Their coach told the press he would walk back to Texas if BYU beat them. Carter threw 2 TDs in first minutes and had 599 yards in a 53-33 BYU win! That win was more important than several of the wins over Utah on the list, although memorable but less significant. Also the 28-21 win over a highly ranked Air Force with two Y kick-off returns for touchdowns - there were some important games against them with national consequences.

Kearns, UT

I'd have put the Hall to George TD pass against the Utes as #2. Hall said that he hated the Utes. I'm an alum of the U and I can't stand the U sports teams either.

West Jordan, UT

However there were some stinkers over the years and I recall Wyoming coming into the stadium and beating BYU and I had a long drive back to So Cal that night feeling I had been defiled somehow--felt the refs had taken the game away from the Cougars with what then were frequent holding calls among other indignities. But I'll be at the game v Houston on the 11th this year; go Cougars.
