Miss Utah 2013 Ciera Pekarcik will retire her crown this week when a new Miss Utah — chosen from a field of 48 young women from across the state — is crowned Saturday.

Preliminary competitions will take place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the Capitol Theatre in Salt Lake City. The final night of the pageant, where the field of 48 will be narrowed to a small group of finalists prior to the evening's competition, will take place Saturday.

More than 700 girls throughout Utah compete in local pageants that feed into the Miss Utah pageant, with the 48 titleholders using their year of service to highlight their chosen platform issues. The Miss Utah pageant is affiliated with the Miss America Organization, which is the world's largest scholarship provider for young women.

Here's a look at the 48 contestants vying for the Miss Utah 2014 title. They are presented in competition order, which dictates which events they will compete in during each night of preliminaries.

The only thing we can ask or demand is that she be a child of a legal american citizen whit the values and morals with honor and duty to country and its people.

Its getting boring that illegal children are being pampered and highlighted and profiled to defraud a true queen of Utah of her crown. The time has come that parental citizenship profiling must become an eligibility requirement and attribute to challenge as rightful contestants.

No hard feeling illegal aliens, but this is not your state, country, and we have to do the honorable thing and be fair in honoring our true citizens and the sacrifices they make in being law abiding people. Illegals are not law abiding or truthful or honorable and merit no trust or considerations.
