I think very few of these could be considered 'scandals.' 'Tragedies' is more like it. A scandal is when someone is bribed or other intentional illegalities take place. A tragedy is when an entire nation boycotts, someone is attacked, someone dies. Would you call Munich a 'scandal'? I think that's tragic.

Macfarren: The scandal is that there was not better security in Munich. The tragedy that resulted from this scandalous short-sightedness is the hostage-taking and murders that ensued.
