No. 25 USC 45, No. 20 Fresno State 20

The Trojans (10-4, 6-3 Pac-12) made up for last season's lackluster performance in the Sun Bowl by dominating MWC champion Fresno State in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Quarterback Cody Kessler threw for 345 yards and four touchdowns to set a Las Vegas Bowl record. Wide receiver Marqise Lee had seven catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns, and Nelson Agholor added five catches for 98 yards and two touchdowns.

The USC defense held Fresno State (11-2, 7-1 MWC) to just 37 yards rushing. Former BYU running back Joshua Quezada had only 20 yards on two carries. Senior Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr struggled as well with just 216 yards passing and an interception, but he did score two touchdowns.

Reminds me of the Three Stooges...who's on first...until there is an actual playoff, there is no REAL national champion. Hopefully that pathetic reality will be remedied next year with at least the (supposed) top four teams in a (supposed) playoff.

Mission Viejo, CA

When I was a kid, we watched the New Years Day bowls, especially the Rose Bowl. Those were great games between conference champions. They were big games. There were a couple of lesser bowls. PAC-12 and Big10 teams not winning the championship were not allowed to play in any other bowl games. "Intersectional games" were games between teams from different parts of the country and were few. Rose, Cotton, Sugar, and Orange. Those were the big games.

Now? Meh.

Only a team's fans watch them in one of the thirty bowl games.

I watched the Fight Hunger Bowl featuring my two teams. I watched half of the Rose Bowl. Most of Oregon State vs Boise.

BCS Championship? Couldn't care less.

Football needs a December Madness playoff system. 16 teams. That would be huge. Conference champions and the top ranked non-conference teams. OK, maybe 24 teams. That's it.

People would watch those games.

Mesa, AZ

Just watched the irrelevant bowl, aka godaddy bowl between Arkansas St and Ball St. That game had no business being played January 5th. Why doesn't the NCAA control that?

And the 4 team playoff will still be the opinion poll ranked top 4. Decide it on the field with a field of 24 conference champions and others like the FCS did yesterday with North Dakota St winning.
