Rock On: All Utah, all the time

HOMETOWN HEROES

One candidate rumored to have shown interest in the Weber State football job is ex-BYU coach Gary Crowton.

That's strange.

Weber once hired Ron McBride, who coached at Utah.

Then it hired John L. Smith, who coached at Utah State.

Then it allegedly made a push to hire Southern Utah coach Ed Lamb.

Now Crowton's name comes up?

This just in: 83-year-old LaVell Edwards has removed himself from consideration.

The Worm thing? Funny. Making fun of RSL players' disappointment in losing their coach? Poor taste, I thought. Oh, now we are back to the Worm thing. What do you know.

Weber State is in the Big Sky conference which has become a pretty serious Division II league. They send players to the NFL every year. They have big teams like Montana and Montana State (even after the expansion). But they play a very high level of football (Conference winner EWU even beat Oregon State). So, I'm not surprised that Weber is recruiting a top-notch coach. It is one league that needs upgrades wherever possible!

The Big Sky is not Division II, but rather Division 1 Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). There is a big difference.

Hire Crowton. I doubt Edwards would be interested. He is probably on an LDS mission somewhere.
