More on Notre Dame Stadium

Capacity: 80,795

Construction completed in 1930

From Touchdown Jesus to the wall-hung "Play like a champion today" sign in the hallway outside the Notre Dame locker room, the house that Knute Rockne built is steeped in tradition. The Notre Dame Victory March is arguably the most recognizable fight song in the country, and the school's band is the oldest university band in existence. This hallowed stadium has been home to seven Heisman Trophy winners, and the Fighting Irish have played 436 games (324-107-5) in the stadium heading into Saturday's contest against BYU. Only once since 1966 has there not been a sellout crowd. No team that has played at the stadium at least four times owns a winning record against the home team.

Notre Dame Stadium has stayed largely true to its original construction — it still has wooden benches — and in 1997 the stadium was renovated to upgrade the facility, adding more than 21,000 seats to make the current capacity reach near 81,000. With the golden hues, the traditional striped end zones and the colors of fall in the surrounding foliage, this is one site that college football fans dream about experiencing.

Having worked at Notre Dame and attended several football games, I must say that it would be hard to duplicate the spirit, loyalty, and spirit associated with playing football in Notre Dames stadium. You have to be there to appreciate the experience. Notre Dame is a class act University.

Salem, UT

Have to agree there is something unique and almost perfect about attending a game in South Bend- if you have never done it- make it a bucket list item- you will not regret it- classy place

from this list I have been to the Rose Bowl, Kyle Field, and Camp Randall.

My Fav was Camp Randall hands down!

Something to think about
Ogden, UT

Been to six of the stadiums on the list... Enjoyed Notre Dame the most... Hate Texas A&M but the crowd, chants, etc... out of this world!

Other favorites: Neyland (Tenn) and for personal reasons Gaylord Family (OU). Another older stadium, but fun crowd is Doak Campbell (Florida St) When they get going that chant they do is awesome.

Why is Rice-Eccles not on this list?

How can the LA Coliseum not be on this list? 2 Olympic Games played, in addition to 2 super bowls and, not to mention, countless national championship teams of USC. So much history and pageantry with that field.

I had fun making a list of all college stadiums I have been to...
College Football Stadium Checklist:
Romney Stadium
Rice Eccles
Lavell Edwards
War Memorial
Sam Boyd
The Rose Bowl
The Coliseum
Kyle Field
Camp Randall
The Swamp
Bronco Stadium
Reser Stadium

Durham, NC

So. Cal Reader.... to your question, the Coliseum is hurt by the very thing you cited... it is a general sports venue where the field is set off by a track and is longer then most standiums putting fans further from the action. Historic, yes. Beautiful, yes. Good (or Great) for football - no. My favorite is Michigan followed by Notre Dame.

Both the Utah and Y stadiums are in great settings (the view around them), but as far a great football venues, particularly Edwards is the most in need up updating. Great view, venue itself lacks.

"Why is Rice-Eccles not on this list?"

Why is Lavell Edwards not on this list? They have a big stadium that they cannot fill.

Saint George, UT

@So Cal Reader. As far as I am concerned the Coliseum should definitely be on the list At various times it has been the home of both USC, UCLA plus the Los Angeles Rams, Raiders, Chargers, home of the first Super Bowl and home to the Los Angeles Dodgers when they came west'
The Utah stadiums are nor worthy of the list.

I have been to Beaver, Husky, Michigan, and Notre Dame on this list. I hope to catch them all.

Wellsville, UT

List is incomplete without the inclusion of Memorial Stadium, Lincoln, NE. I'd put it in the top 5.
