Is it basketball season yet?

For local college hoops fans, the answer to that question will soon be yes.

With opportunities to add resume-building wins to an NCAA tournament profile, non-conference play can be important for teams looking to make it to the big postseason stage.

Before this year's college basketball season ventures into 2014, there will be a handful of games involving local teams that should grab the interest of hoops fans throughout the state of Utah.

Here's a look at the most intriguing matchups for BYU, Utah, Utah State, UVU, Southern Utah and Weber State during the non-conference slate:

Isn't it funny that byu has "big" games at Stanford and Oregon.

Utah has those games two. In fact twice. Each.

If you read the title it states "The most intriguing non-conference matchups". I believe that Utah, Stanford and Oregon are all in the PAC-12. Besides BYU has a chance to beat those two, Utah well....not so much

bfowers, Utah has already beaten both of those teams in the last two years. Why wouldn't they have a chance?

A little surprised that the Mississippi State game at Utah State didn't make the list. How often do you see a SEC team making the trip to Logan....? Come on Desnews. The list looks great except for that game being left off!

This Utah team is very good. That being said they should take fourth place in the PAC. Arizona, UCLA, and Oregon are legit championship contenders. I think Utah goes dancing this year and gets a 6 or 7 seed. Utah finally has depth, size, and athletes to compete with the elite in this conference. Go Utes!!!

Setting aside the delusional comment that the Utes will be fourth place in the PAC and go to the NCAA tournament, I do believe that they will probably beat BYU this year.
