This holiday season will bring plenty of new releases from many genres with the potential to satisfy a wide range of cinema appetites. Between the months of November and December, 11 movies will debut for a broad audience.

"Ender's Game" kicks off the season as the first holiday film, to be released on Nov. 1. Many have discussed whether the film adaptation of this popular novel can be done correctly. Discussions have also surfaced about the book's author, Orson Scott Card, and controversial statements he has made.

Several of the other highly anticipated films are sequels to successful blockbusters, such as "Thor: The Dark World," "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" and "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire."

The first installment of "The Hunger Games" series performed well after its release on March 23, 2012, and much is expected of its sequel. "The Hunger Games" brought in $155 million at the domestic box office and became the third-best opener of all time for films not released in the summer, according to Yahoo! Movies.

"Thor" and "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" also did well at the box office.
