Brighton’s resurgence continues: the Bengals also opened 2012 at 5-0 but haven’t won six to start the season since 2004 when they roared to a 12-0 record before falling in the state semifinals.

As a recap, other schools that haven’t been 5-0 for at least three seasons: Bingham (13-0 in 2010), Davis (started 7-0 in 2010), Grantsville (8-0 in 1992), Pleasant Grove (7-0 in 2009), Richfield (6-0 in 2010) and South Summit (5-0 in 2009).

Speaking of South Summit, the Wildcats have won their first five games several times in their 76 seasons. But their best-ever start was 6-0 in 1951 with victories over Wasatch, Morgan, Murray, Judge, Park City and North Summit. SS then lost to Tooele, ending its season with a 6-1 region record as every contest was also a league game.

Desert Hills, of course, enjoys its best-ever start.
