How BYU, Utah and USU's opponents fared in week four

Utah State QB Chuckie Keeton wasn't able to break free of the stingy USC defense, and the Aggies narrowly missed picking up a win over a Pac-12 team on the road for the second time this season.

As tough as this loss was, Keeton and Utah State still are in great shape to win a second conference championship in a row. After four weeks, Utah State should have a good idea of who its main competition will be in its first year of competition in the Mountain West Conference.

Here's how Utah State's opponents fared this week.

Interesting article on CBSsports that gives you the current bowl predictions and I am guessing they didnt like how both Utah and BYU played since they are not showing either team in their list. I can post the link but it is easy to find under cbssports collegefootball bowls prediction tabs.

Sorry, I have no idea what UR UR with a number after it means. Is there some kind of key to let us neophyte sports analysts understand your stats and what they mean for our opponents' game outcomes??

To look at the opponents win/loss record will become less meaningful for Utah and Utah State as conference begins. Consider this; When Oregon plays Stanford a currently ranked number 2 team plays a currently ranked number 5 team yet one has to lose. So for teams in conferences their opponents playing each other will lead to a 50% win record. Kinda distorts the analysis of strength of schedule!

bigirish, UR means unranked. Should've clarified that, my fault. The first one is AP ranking, the second Coaches' Poll ranking, and the third the Sagarin rating. Apparently a few people found it helpful, sorry I didn't make it clear for you.

BYU's opponent did quite well this last Saturday. Utah's opponent did not.

So it looks like the Anae offense is going to still try to perfect something that seems rather static and uncreative. Can that get better just by execution? That was my beef with him before he left - he seemed to push the same scheme after other teams had figured it out, without adding some surprise value to it. It seems he has sacrificed a lot of wrinkles to the Go Fast Go Hard, which hasn't really made a lot of difference for other defenses. He said he was going to keep this offense simple - and simple it is, too simple, and our opponents get it. Two non productive runs into the stacked up middle, and then a 30/70 chance of a pass working. I know I'm generalizing, but against a good defense like Utah, and without a consistent offense, we got stopped. Sure, a few plays or mistakes could have made the difference. We were better in stats. Did our offense lose confidence in the blue zone? I hope the coaches work on that a lot this week - and give Ammon Olson a chance to show his passing. We should use both those guys rather than loyally sticking to a qb who might not be as two dimensional as we thought.
