I appreciate your article regarding the long list of gun deaths we are experiencing. This is a tragic American story and those in favor of continuing unlimited access to guns hide behind a misreading of the U.S. Constitution. Please keep the State of Utah aware of this on-going and unnecessary slaughter of American citizens. A large number of gun deaths can be prevented. I live in Utah and own guns, and I know we can do better.

Gun control advocates use every instance of gun violence to push their agenda which is to redefine the second amendment.

Everyone would love to have measures in place that would keep crazy killers from getting their hands on powerful weapons and using them on innocent victims. If those crazy killers would actually respect the rule of law, then I would support some legislation that might even take away some of my freedoms in this area. But they won't, so passing gun laws don't do anything but strip freedoms from law abiding citizens.

Even if it were possible to get rid of every gun ever made, these killers will use bombs, planes, chemicals, or knives to carry out their evil deeds.

So, while it is easy to report incidents of gun violence, it is far harder to report on acts of violence that never happened because the purpetrator was afraid that the victim might have a weapon to defend themselves.

"Gun control advocates use every instance of gun violence to push their agenda which is to redefine the second amendment." Unfortunately what we've been able achieve up to this point, which is absolutely nothing, has given us plenty of these instances of violence on which to push our so called agenda.

JC2 makes some sense unless one realizes that the gun most likely to kill or maim someone in your home is already there, and owned by you. Would you please lock it up for the good of everyone, or would that violate the Constitution as well?

How about a nifty Infographics showing how many crimes, abductions, murders, home invasions, car jackings, robberies, rapes, threats were averted due to a law abiding gun owner using his/her right to protect themselves. I bet there are more than 83 people SAVED due to legal gun ownership... and probably the 83 number was kept lower due to law abiding gun owners who scared off would be murders who's killing streak was prematurely ended.
Evil must be countered with Good. If only Evil people have guns, how are they countered? with Good people with guns.

I found it interesting on Foxnews the other day they criticized how there weren't background checks done on the shooter and how insane it is to have guns on a navy base.

It was like I was in the Twilight Zone.

Suddenly guns are bad to have on a navy base? Yet encouraged to be in our schools?

Background checks are good to have done on military personnel but bad for the general population in obtaining guns?

It's like... The NRA forgot to pay these guys this week so Foxnews actually sounded rational and logical.

Don't worry, another base shooting or two and the NRA will capitalize on it and spread the ridiculous ideas that every military officer on base needs to be armed to the teeth and that background checks are somehow violations of freedom.

The Real Maverick: "I found it interesting on Foxnews the other day they criticized...how insane it is to have guns on a navy base."

Unlike MSNBC and the other far-left media outlets, FoxNews will actually have commentators and guests who will opine with a variety of views instead of just a steady stream of one side of every issue.

While FoxNews in general sides with the second ammendment and supports gun rights, they try to show that there really is another side to the debate (and not try to paint everyone who supports that side as irrational lunatics). Can't say the same about other news outlets.

johnnylingo62 makes a great point that we need to see some infographics on law-abiding citizens protecting their fellow citizens with their concealed weapons. Also, those who believe that NOT having a gun in your home is safer, and that Naval bases shouldn't have guns, I challenge you to put a sign up in front of your home, stating that your home is a gun free zone. Only then will I believe that your comments and beliefs do not ooze of hypocrisy. I want our military to protect themselves, not be sitting ducks for madmen!
