To help bring down at least one costly fixed rate bill, Furman added that most auto insurance providers offer discounts for various things, such as:

1. Being a good student (if you or your child is a full-time student under 25)

2. Anti-theft devices, if you own a home (even if it's not insured with the same company),

3. Setting up automatic payments

4. Paying your premium all at once rather than over time.

Good stuff. 4 outta 10 isn't bad...

But more rigorous saving and specifics are needed. We still adhere to the Financial Planning course we paid $100 for. Best investment ever!

1- Silly "saving" envelopes, saying no to kids and "extras", cutting up the credit cards: Best actions ever.

2- Lots of Biblical principles and encouragement.

3- Having a plan/budget makes you feel in control and functional. And it leaves you guilt-free when it comes time to splurge!
