BLACKBERRY Q10, BLACKBERRY LTD

The Q10 is a successful marriage of the modern touch-screen smartphone and the iconic BlackBerry keyboard. The interface takes time to get used to, and it doesn't have the simple immediacy of the iPhone. But once you learn it, you can positively zip between tasks. The downside to the new BlackBerry 10 operating system is its relative dearth of third-party software. In addition, the keyboard eats up space that could be devoted to a bigger screen, leaving the Q10 with a square, 3.1-inch screen. Nonetheless, the Q10 is likely to be attractive to the BlackBerry faithful, and it deserves serious consideration from Android and iPhone users as well.

These are all cool phones, but the Blackberry Z10 really deserves a second look. I have never owned a Blackberry phone, but just happened to notice it was getting 5 stars by nearly everyone who reviewed it on the AT&T website. About two thirds of the reviewers had never used a Blackberry before, but after using the Z10 swore they'd never go back to Android or the iPhone. Much of the other third were former Blackberry users who'd wandered away and were lured back by the Z10. A few were Blackberry faithful who never left the fold. With almost no exceptions they were blown away by the groundbreaking features of Blackberry's BB10 operating system, and the Z10's amazing virtual keyboard.

After using the Z10 for a couple of months, I wholeheartedly agree: Blackberry has reinvented the smartphone! The keyboard learns my writing patterns so the more I use it the better it is at predicting what word I'll type next. It hovers 6-8 likely candidates over the next letter I would type for that word. If it's the word I want, I just flick it up into my sentence. Amazingly productive, and faster than my computer keyboard!
