This week: Home vs. Idaho (0-1)

The Cowboys were almost the talk of the college football world over the weekend. Had they beaten the Cornhuskers, and had all those FCS teams not beaten ranked opponents, they probably would have been.

The Cowboys drew within three with 1:32 remaining. They failed to retrieve the onside kick, but held Nebraska to turn the ball over on downs.

With the ball and just more than a minute to score a game-winning touchdown, consecutive holding penalties put the game out of reach. It ended with an incomplete pass at midfield.

"I think the offense did an outstanding job executing, but more importantly we didn’t lose that fight,” Wyoming quarterback Brett Smith told WyoSports.com. “There was screaming on the sideline at the end telling everyone not to lose their edge. Everyone really believed we were going to win that game.”

If the Cowboys are still frustrated, they'll have their chance to unleash their anger on a woeful Idaho Vandals team that lost 40-6 in week one against North Texas.

BYU and Utah are going to have a tough time with tough schedules becoming bowl eligible. I knew this would be a rebuilding year for the offense, but I thought the offense would be further along than they are. I thought the defense could carry them to an 8-4 record, but after seeing the offense on Saturday I'd have to predict 6-6 at this point.

Utah should win Weber State, Oregon State (not nearly as good as last year), Washington State and Colorado. BYU, Arizona and Arizona St are 50 / 50 games. I'm raising my prediction from 4-8 to 6-6 since U beat USU (which I thought was a 50 / 50 game, and Oregon St looks poor. The SOS will not be in the top 20, as predicted in the preseason, but is still tough with four guaranteed loses.

USU has the easiest schedule and I'll keep my prediction at 8-4.

BYU, U and USU all look pretty comparable to me. USU has the best offense, BYU has the best defense, U has the best special teams (the kicker was amazing).

As a Utah fan I was excited to see that the Ute's had the one ingredient that was lacking last year. Heart. It's that gritty toughness that for me has been the hallmark of Coach Whits teams. Based on what I saw last week, Utah could have an 8 win season. I definitely see a 4-0 start heading into conference play.

BYU will be 1-4 after their first five games. Sorry Zoobs, it's gonna be a long season. With the poor line play, Hill isn't going to make it into the second half during Texas.

The Aggies will win 9 and might get lucky against Boise State for 10.
