Last week: Beat BYU (0-1), 19-16

This week: vs. No. 3 Oregon (1-0), Saturday

While Virginia's offense struggled to move the ball, the Cavaliers took advantage of a handful of BYU mistakes deep in Cougar territory to score enough points to earn the week one victory.

Virginia's defense disrupted the new BYU offense, producing three sacks, a safety and a late interception that led to the game-winning touchdown — a 13-yard Kevin Parks touchdown run with 2:36 remaining.

“We wanted to make them make mistakes with their passing game and we could sense the frustration of their linemen and their quarterback because they were always looking down at the ground after pass plays,” Virginia defensive tackle Brent Urban told The Daily Progress.

Up next for Virginia is a home tilt with the Ducks, who rolled up 772 yards of total offense in a 66-3 victory over Nicholls State.

Cool way to do an article!

BYU and Utah are going to have a tough time with tough schedules becoming bowl eligible. I knew this would be a rebuilding year for the offense, but I thought the offense would be further along than they are. I thought the defense could carry them to an 8-4 record, but after seeing the offense on Saturday I'd have to predict 6-6 at this point.

Utah should win Weber State, Oregon State (not nearly as good as last year), Washington State and Colorado. BYU, Arizona and Arizona St are 50 / 50 games. I'm raising my prediction from 4-8 to 6-6 since U beat USU (which I thought was a 50 / 50 game, and Oregon St looks poor. The SOS will not be in the top 20, as predicted in the preseason, but is still tough with four guaranteed loses.

USU has the easiest schedule and I'll keep my prediction at 8-4.

BYU, U and USU all look pretty comparable to me. USU has the best offense, BYU has the best defense, U has the best special teams (the kicker was amazing).

Week two prediction for the Y...

Texas 34 BYU 16

As a Utah fan I was excited to see that the Ute's had the one ingredient that was lacking last year. Heart. It's that gritty toughness that for me has been the hallmark of Coach Whits teams. Based on what I saw last week, Utah could have an 8 win season. I definitely see a 4-0 start heading into conference play.

BYU will be 1-4 after their first five games. Sorry Zoobs, it's gonna be a long season. With the poor line play, Hill isn't going to make it into the second half during Texas.

The Aggies will win 9 and might get lucky against Boise State for 10.
