In Utah's 13-6 win, Utes running back Brandon Warfield was a workhorse by gaining 194 yards on 40 carries. He also caught two passes for 22 yards. With 3:03 left in the third quarter, Warfield's 4-yard TD run was the game's only touchdown and put Utah ahead for good.
In BYU's 24-21 victory, Cougar running back Luke Staley, who won the Doak Walker Award that year, rushed for 169 yards on 17 carries, and also caught three passes for 28 yards. His 30-yard TD run down the right sideline with 1:16 remaining gave BYU the win.
In Utah's 34-31 win, Utes quarterback Mike McCoy gave Utah its first back-to-back wins in the rivalry in 23 years by completing 18 of 29 passes for 247 yards and four TDs. His 20-yard TD toss to Charlie Brown with 56 seconds left secured the win for Utah.
In BYU's 70-31 victory, Cougar Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Ty Detmer played less than a half, but in those two quarters he completed 18 of 22 passes for 358 yards and four touchdowns. The Cougars scored in Detmer's first eight possessions as quarterback.
In Utah's 48-24 win, Utes quarterback Brian Johnson had a near perfect game by completing 30 of 36 passes for 303 yards and four TDs. He broke the game open when he hit David Reed for a 32-yard TD toss right before the half, and then put the game away with two fourth-quarter TD passes.
In BYU's 38-8 victory, Cougars quarterback Marc Wilson broke the then NCAA single-game passing yards mark by completing 26 of 41 attempts for 571 yards. Wilson also threw five TD passes in the game.
In Utah's 57-28 win, Utes quarterback Scott Mitchell (who would go on to play with the NFL's Detroit Lions) ended Utah's nine-game losing streak to BYU and gave the Utes only their second win in a 17-game stretch in the series by throwing for 384 yards and three TDs.
In BYU's 55-7 win, Cougars quarterback Steve Young put on a show in efficiency by completing 22 of 25 passes for 268 yards and a then BYU-record six TD passes. The Cougars also rushed 40 times for 238 yards in the game.
In Utah's 41-35 overtime win, Utes quarterback Brett Ratliff stepped in and gave BYU fits with both his arm and legs. He finished with 240 yards and four TDs passing, and rushed for another 129 yards and a TD. He won the game with a 25-yard scoring pass to Travis LaTrendesse in OT.
In BYU's 56-28 victory, Cougars quarterback Jim McMahon had his second-straight monster game against the Utes, throwing for 565 yards and four TDs. A year earlier, in a 56-6 win over Utah, McMahon threw for 399 yards and three TDs.
