Seagulls barbecuing crickets caught the crowd's fancy in 2008, with the Farmington Utah LDS Stake's float winning the Sweepstakes and People's Choice Award. Here it is shown in the 2008 Days of '47 Parade.

All of these floats pictured are great creations. The parade is one of the best in the county.

I was expecting to see floats from years gone by based on the story title but most of the pics were less than 3 years old. DN surely has an archive of photos that date back 100 plus years. How about another story with some of those photos?

Yes the floats are awesome, and they are all in the last 11 years, I would rather see the best float for each year and give credit to those in the past that didn't have the money and resources that they have in this decade. Maybe we have also lost sight of the simplicity and the value of the humble float with the humble message. Are people really seeing the message, or are they seeing the fanfare? Kind of like going into a $1,000,000 home and it has everything you would want, but happiness and then you go into the $100,000 home filled with laughter and love. Sure the one is great to see, but wouldn't want to live there.

They missed my favorite one. I think it was called "Preserving your Heritage" or something like that. It had the soft sculptured heads in giant Mason jars. Loved it.
