A week of preliminary competitions came to an end Saturday as Miss Panoramaland Ciera Pekarcik was crowned the new Miss Utah 2013, claiming a chance to compete at Miss America in September and promote her service platform throughout the state for the coming year.

During the first night of competition Wednesday, Ciera Pekarcik, Miss Panoramaland, won a preliminary talent award for her performance of Via Dolorosa by Sandi Patty. Miss Provo, Kaitlin Purse, won a preliminary lifestyle and fitness award.

On Thursday, Pekarcik claimed a second preliminary award, this time in lifestyle and fitness, and Miss Nebo, Vanessa Watson, won a talent award for her piano performance of Etude, Opus 25, Number 11 (Winter Wind) by Chopin.

During the final night of preliminary competition Friday, Miss Weber County, Savannah Lancaster, won the talent award for her contemporary dance performance and Miss Orem, Amy Tuttle, won a preliminary lifestyle and fitness award.

Each preliminary award winner received a $100 scholarship.

During Saturday's competition, the field of titleholders will be whittled down based on the three nights of preliminary scores, and the finalists will compete for the Miss Utah title and more than $170,000 in scholarship money and awards.
