A fantastic spring narrowly vaulted Bingham High past Davis for the 2012-13 All-Sports award in the state’s largest classification.

It was the fifth-straight year the schools have alternated winning the title.

After winning zero state championships through the fall and winter, Bingham won baseball and girls golf titles in the spring, in addition to runner-up finishes in boys soccer, softball and girls track.

Bingham’s 92.5 points helped it edge second-place Davis, which finished with 88 points after sweeping the track titles and finishing first in girls cross country.

Bingham placed in the top eight in 16 of 19 sports, up significant from last year’s 5A winner Davis, which placed in the top eight in 11 sports.

Brighton and Davis each won three state titles, while Bingham, Lone Peak, Viewmont and Pleasant Grove finished with two each.

Bingham’s girls finished with the most All-Sports points with 56, while Brighton’s boys led the way with 39.

Eleven different schools won state titles this year.
