No. 1 Desert Hills beat Dixie twice during the regular season, and there was no reason to think it wouldn’t win again in the 3A state championship at the Dee Events Center. The underdog Flyers had other ideas. In a tournament that had been low scoring throughout, Dixie stymied Desert Hills all game and then sophomore Kelsey McCann drained an angle-left, game-winning 3-pointer with 3.7 seconds remaining. Desert Hills responded with a 3-pointer at the buzzer, but the refs ruled it didn’t get the shot off in time.
