Morgan Grimm and Daniel Deane were both chased off the Utah team by Jim Boylen. One of the first things Boylen did was get rid of Deane whose father Greg was an all conference player for Utah. I guess that should have told us something about Boylen early on. Either he can't recognized talent or he is impatient in working with 18 year olds. Oh well, he had his chance.

WOW!...A lot of the Deseret News choices for Mr. Basketball I have never heard of!...Except the ones that have or are still playing for BYU.

Salt Lake City, UT

I was in Cedar City when Roger Reid got hired by SUU. He watched the Jazz-Rockets playoff series with me and my friends. He's a really nice guy and for the most part been a very successful coach (hasn't had success at SUU though.)

I remember him mentioning how he believes there are plenty of great recruits in the state of Utah. We're one of the few places that has a basketball court in every church house in every block throughout the state. Its a bigger part of our culture than we realize.

That same year he brought Geoff Payne and half of his Snow team (mostly Utah kids) down to SUU and we had a decent season.

Anyway... just a thought I wanted to contribute. It comes from Roger Reid, not me :)

Cedar City, Utah

Reid is a great guy. That is definetly a true statement. And a heck of a coach no matter what anyone says. But this article is about highschool basketball players. Not college coaches. Certainly not about SUU. I love SUU just as much as the next guy but read the artle and make a comment about highschool not college. All these candidates are great. Should go a long way at the next level.

Mapleton, Utah

Speaks to the value of the program at BYU that 6 of the 12 (decided) "Mr. Basketball" men chose that School program over any other school/program in state or out.

I was surprised that SLCC knocked down 2 or was it 3 (?) of those top players.

What is happening with the 13th? Is anyone recruiting him in state?

Perhaps because you follow BYU? Just a hunch.
