COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Nov. 26 — Zita Gruodis, 58, was found dead of multiple stab wounds in the bed of her home at 7941 Chadbourne Drive (3350 East). Investigators believe she had been dead a day or two before her body was discovered. Her daughter, Airida Maria Gruodis, 36, was arrested but no charges have been filed against her. The case is still under investigation. Police said there was a long history of domestic violence between the mother and daughter as well as a history of mental illness with Airida Gruodis. She allegedly told police she had been off her medication, which usually results in "bad things happening."

So many of these killings were the result of "arguments." Self-control is the lesson of life, but it is a much neglected practice. There seems to be greed, jealousy and self-centeredness involved in many of the tragic deaths as well. The most pathetic of all are acts against children. We have a long way to go as a "civilized" nation to qualify as that. Alcohol, drugs and partying are also factors, sad in the extreme.
Love, not guns, is the answer to violence.
But in the absence of love, self defense is the next best answer.
