10 NFL teams that could use former Utah Utes quarterback Alex Smith in 2013
Current quarterbacks: Ryan Tannehill, Matt Moore
The Dolphins selected Tannehill with the eighth pick of the 2012 draft. He won the starting job in camp and has led Miami to a 5-6 record. His personal stats, however, are less impressive: 2,373 yards, seven touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
To be fair, the 'Fins don't have a ton of talent at wide receiver, preferring to run the ball with Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas. And having spent such a high draft pick on Tannehill, they'd probably need to see more of him before going after Alex Smith. But the former Ute is the better player right now.

Maybe U of U would have you back Alex. Never mind, Wilson would win out there too.
Best fit? I say the Jets or Chiefs.
I hope Ducky doesn't read this article, he'll be depressed all weekend.
Alex is done in San Francisco but he should be starting next year on one of the teams listed here. I'm thinking he'll stay out West and go play in Arizona.
Good luck Alex!!
Alex visited Miami during the Peyton sweepstakes and passed then. Why would the same coaching staff & front office call for a mulligan?
As a Phins fan, I understand the powers that be in Davie are pleased w/ RT.
You all realize that Miami's OC coached RT @ A and M?
Alex Smith would look good in my home town Chicago Bears uniform as a back up to Jay Cutler. Smith could extend his career for a few very profitable years as a dependable back up for a good defensive team that would need a reliable QB to manage the offense and not commit turn overs.
I would say the Chiefs are most desperate. As for him vs. Sanchez, put Sanchez behind a good team he would do just fine, in fact, the Jets went as far one year as the Niners and beat the Patriots on the road. There isn't much difference between the two in reality.
I actually think this is a moot point because I don't see the 9ers trading him, and I think he will be back as the starter. I still feel he gives them the best chance to win the Super Bowl this year.
If he does go somewhere, I'd like it to be Philly if Reid is staying. Despite the results this year, I think he is a witch of a coach, and will get them playing better. Nobody would win with the O-line issues they've had this year, and people have figured out Vick. I think teams will figure out Kaepernick pretty quickly too, the difference is, he has a great O-line and defense to cover a lot of his mistakes.
Anyone but the Chiefs.
pocyUte:
Reid will be gone in Philly. I hope he retires rather than be fired but he won't be back. I think Reid needs some time off, he's been through a lot with his family the past few years, especially this season with the death of his son. But for whatever reason, it's not clicking for Reid in Philly and for his dignity I hope he resigns on his own terms instead of having someone who is his good friend, the owner Lawrie, fire him. Smith in Philly isn't a bad option whoever the coach is as I think the Eagles will part ways with Vick as well but Foles is not ready to start yet.
Minnesota should be on this list over Miami. Tannehill has definitely shown enough to get another shot, whereas Ponder hasn't shown much of anything.
