Sorry to do more research for you, Blaze. However, Beck and So'oto aren't in the NFL on any team right now. They're certainly not on the Texans or the Packers, respectively. I believe I might need to start charging you a "research assistance" fee! :o) This was a pretty comprehensive list w/ a few surprises. Eric Weddle is in our Stake. He and his wife are amazing people. We're fortunate to have them so close by, and they are always so willing to speak and help others.
How about Jay Don Blake, Dan Forsman, Mike Reid, and Bobby Clampett on the Senior PGA Tour? Isn't Dean Wilson LDS?
Fantastic article! You provided outstanding footage in these video clips. I was especially touched by Daniel Summerhays. However, each one was very special. Thank you for the time and hard work that go into presenting such an enjoyable article for sports fans. It is greatly appreciated.
What is your source on Josh Johnsom?
Sorry, not impressed. There is no validation of mormonism in pro sports, or indeed amateur sports, nor vice versa. It's mere coincidence.
Sorry but mormons and participating in a sport does not ammount to much. At some point I am sure the Dnews will begin pointing out high scholl athletes that are mormon. This is really a sad reflection on the culture.
So. Cal Reader - So'oto is on the Raiders. Go do some more research!
No matter what religion professional athletes are probably does not matter to some, but it is still very interesting to me. It probably is just coincidental but it is still fun to know about these players.
I think it is iteresting to know what LDS athletes have made in the NFL. It's not about validationg, it's just interesting. It's like when blacks started playing ball in baseball. it's interesting and we are proud to see our peculiar friends be successful in what is the most lucrative and popular profession in the world.
However, I think some of these are just members of record. Roy Halloday and Jacoby Ellsbury hardly consider themselves LDS/Mormon. So you're kind of stretching it there.
I like this list, but i feel it would be vastly better if it was a list of only those that served mission and played pro sports.
Guess Mormons don't like hockey, soccer or basketball. Jimmer is probably facing last year in NBA and then no one left :(
Would like to see some of the international athletes on the list. Hopoate from Australia who is currently on a mission and others like him. He actually gave up some serious dollars to go on a mission.
What about Professional Beach VolleyBall or don't you want to include this sport?
I know of at least two that are LDS - Jake Gibb and Casey Patterson
Ma'ake is not mormon. He is United Methodist, the son of a UMC pastor and grandson of a Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga pastor.
