A brief history of the WAC, 1962-2012
Al Grillo, AP
Nickname: Redhawks
Year joined: 2012
Year departed: Still in WAC
WAC championships: 0
The University of Seattle was one of three teams to apply to the WAC in 2011, the others being UVU and CSU-Bakersfield, but was the only school accepted. At the time, WAC commissioner Karl Benson said there was a "clear consensus" Seattle brought the most to the struggling league: access to the Seattle TV market and recent athletic expansion. They joined the league in 17 sports, but not football.

Carl Benson is the commissioner of the Sun Belt and not C-USA.
