In college football, winning isn't the only factor. Who you beat, and how, is a vital part of moving up the rankings and getting into a good bowl game. So each week during the 2012 season, we'll take a look at how Utah's past and future opponents performed.

Last week: Bye
The Bears will look forward to getting back on the field against conference foe Montana.
Next up: Saturday, Oct. 6 vs. Montana
Last week: Won vs. UNLV, 35-13
The Aggies didn't have too much trouble with the Rebels, setting up a huge matchup with BYU this Friday. Having already beaten Utah, the Aggies can prove they're the best team in the state with a win. And they just might be right.
Next up: Friday, Oct. 5 at BYU
Last week: Won vs. Hawaii, 47-0
After two close losses to Utah and Boise State, the Cougars bounced back in a big way by shutting out the Warriors. The only question going forward is, who will the quarterback be?
Next up: Friday, Oct. 5 vs. Utah State
Last week: Won at Cal, 27-17
The Sun Devils haven't played the toughest schedule yet, but they've shown a competent offense and a surprisingly stout defense, which is giving up just 13.6 points per game. And they've already got two Pac-12 wins.
Next up: Thursday, Oct 11 at Colorado
Last week: Bye
Like the Utes, the Trojans have been off since a 27-9 win over Cal on Sept. 22. They come to Rice-Eccles this week with a balanced team and plenty of athletic talent on both sides of the ball.
Next up: Thursday, Oct. 4 at Utah
Last week: Won at Colorado, 42-14
After a home loss to Oregon State, the Bruins took their frustrations out on the poor Buffaloes. UCLA is ranked in the top 20 nationally in both passing and rushing yards per game.
Next up: Saturday, Oct. 6 at Cal
Last week: Won at Arizona, 38-35
The upstart Beavers stayed undefeated by holding off the Wildcats in Tucson, although they needed a late touchdown pass with just over a minute left to do it. They'll host Wazzu before visiting Provo for BYU's first-ever "blackout" game.
Next up: Saturday, Oct. 6 vs. Washington State
Last week: Lost to Arizona State, 27-17
Cal just can't seem to catch a break. They've been in almost every game they've played this season, even against teams like Ohio State. But their defense just hasn't been able to get stops when needed.
Next up: Saturday, Oct. 6 vs. #25 UCLA
Last week: Lost to #2 Oregon, 51-26
Nobody expected Wazzu to put up much of a fight against the second-ranked Ducks, but they surprisingly made a game of it until the second half. Unfortunately, the rest of their schedule is so tough that the strides they've made may not get them wins.
Next up: Saturday, Oct. 6 at #14 Oregon State
Last week: Won vs. Stanford, 17-13
The Huskies scored a massive upset of then-#8 Stanford in Seattle last week, earning them a spot in the Top 25 this week. But UW's offense still has a long way to go...and they travel to Eugene this week.
Next up: Saturday, Oct. 6 at #2 Oregon
Last week: Lost to Oregon State, 38-35
Rich Rodriguez's Wildcats can put a ton of points on the board; they've got the ninth-best passing attack in the nation. On the other hand, they got blanked by Oregon and lost a shootout to Oregon State. So they still have a lot of work to do.
Next up: Saturday, Oct. 6 at #18 Stanford
Last week: Lost to UCLA, 42-14
The Buffaloes' joy at knowing they won't go winless was short-lived, as they got thrashed by UCLA. That's likely to be a theme for the rest of the season. At least they have this weekend off.
Next up: Thursday, Oct. 11 vs. Arizona State
