Kelton Price, DJ Tischner and Tyson Westwood each scored 12 points as the second-ranked T-Birds did enough to take care of business in the opening round. Price added eight rebounds for Piute, which outboarded gritty Manila 35-24. Jared Reed and Austin Brady both scored 11 points for Manila.

HALFTIME

It hasn't been all that pretty, but the T-Birds lead by nine points, 28-17, at halftime here at the Sevier Valley Center. D.J. Tischner has 12 points and four boards to lead Piute, while Austin Brady has scored eight points for Manila.

END OF GAME

Piute did what it needed to do to win and advance past gritty Manila. Worryingly, though, for Piute is the fact that star guard Tyson Westwood limped off late with an apparent injury and walked very gingerly through the handshake line afterward.
