The Wasatch Wasps completed their perfect season by beating Region 10 rival Judge for the third time this year. Tara Gehring had eight steals and seven rebounds to go along with her 24 points. Kimberly Parker had eight rebounds to go along with her 13 points.
The Wasps shot 56 percent from the field, and Judge shot just 33 percent. Saane Loamanu was the only Bulldog to reach double figures in scoring as she had 11 points. Mikelle Mancini had 10 rebounds for Judge.
Game notes:
Judge nearly made another incredible comeback. The Bulldogs got within four points with 14.6 seconds remaining and had the chance to get closer. But a 3-point attempt by Erica Martinez rimmed out and Wasatch got the rebound.
Third quarter report:
Tara Gehring has been phenomenal. In addition to her 16 points, she has recorded eight steals. The Wasps broke from the break between the third and fourth quarters with some of their players hugging and others slapping hands. They are one quarter away from completing a perfect season.
Halftime:
The Wasps gained a little breathing room with an 8-2 run to close the quarter. The Bulldogs made some costly turnovers, and Wasatch, mainly Tara Gehring, took advantage.
It won't be easy to come back on the unbeaten Wasps. But Judge was able to overcome several deficits against Carbon on Thursday and Morgan on Friday. This game is far from over.
The Bulldogs have to shoot the ball better in the second half. They shot just 26.3 percent from the field in the first half. Wasatch, meanwhile, made 53.8 percent of its attempts.
First quarter report:
The best move of the game was turned in by Judge coach Jeremy Chatterton. After Wasatch built a 7-0 lead just 95 seconds into the game, Chatterton called a timeout and settled his team down. The Bulldogs responded with a 9-2 run to tie the game.
